Put down that 7 UP!
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 02:10 PM by Skinner
This is a story from May of this year, but I think needs to be reread to get a clear understanding of what has been going on... and will go on... oh, and I am glad I never drink 7up or any of their crap products as well...

The story itself has disappeared from the "the-news.net" website (gee, imagine that...) but here is the link to Google's cache.

FRONT PAGE STORY - 05/04/2003

US arms group heads for Lisbon

Directors of one of the world’s largest armament companies are planning on meeting in Lisbon in three weeks time. The American based Carlyle Group is heavily involved in supplying arms to the Coalition forces fighting in the Iraqi war.

It also holds a majority of shares in the Seven Up company and Federal Data Corporation, supplier of air traffic control surveillance systems to the US Federal Aviation Authority. The 12 billion dollar company has recently signed contracts with United Defence Industries to equip the Turkish and Saudi Arabian armies with aviation defence systems.

Top of the meeting’s agenda is expected to be the company’s involvement in the rebuilding of Baghdad’s infrastructure after the cessation of current hostilities. Along with several other US companies, the Carlyle Group is expected to be awarded a billion dollar contract by the US Government to help in the redevelopment of airfields and urban areas destroyed by Coalition aerial bombardments.

The Group is managed by a team of former US Government personnel including its president Frank Carlucci, former deputy director of the CIA before becoming Defence Secretary. His deputy is James Baker II, who was Secretary of State under George Bush senior. Several high profile former politicians are employed to represent the company overseas, among them John Major, former British Prime Minister, along with George Bush senior, one time CIA director before becoming US President.

3. Thanks
These guys (Carlyle) want to own the world, I think. And they've made a very good start.

All private, too. No pesky federal oversight.

4. 7-Up is a Cadbury product not Carlyle and world wide it is PepsiCo
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 10:45 AM by Bandit
7-Up is owned by Cadbury here in the USA but in the rest of the world it is owned by PepsiCo so I guess you should quit drinking Pepsi also. I would imagine almost any world wide Corporation is somehow involved in the Right-Wing in some manner. Stop buying any gasoline also because they all help the right-wing cause. Drink FUZE or Honest Tea for a real American drink of quality and caliber. Cadbury also owns Squirt, Dr. Pepper, Country Time Lemonaide, Hawaiian Punch,Bawls,Orange Delight, and numerous other soft drinks.

6. Cadbury and Carlyle's ownership of Bottling Group
Dr Pepper/Seven Up Bottling Group (DPSUBG) rings up sweet results for Cadbury Schweppes, the world's #3 soft-drink firm. It is a leading bottler of soft drinks in the US, distributing in 21 states. Besides the Dr Pepper and 7 UP brands (owned by Cadbury Schweppes), it also bottles the lesser-known Big Red and Crush brands. DPSUBG was formed in 1999 when Dr Pepper Bottling Company of Texas and American Bottling merged. Cadbury Schweppes and The Carlyle Group own 40% and 53% of the company, respectively. CEO Jim Turner, who owns 5%, joined Dr Pepper Bottling Company of Texas in 1982 and built it by acquiring franchises. The company continues to grow by acquiring other bottlers.

7. How ironic that Cadbury is in partnership with Carlyle
Cadbury, like Fry's and Rowntree's in Britain, was founded by a Quaker, as a non-violent, non-alcholic business, and were all noted as progressive employers, leading the way in fair treatment of workers in the 19th century.
