Please DU this petition!

http://www.affordabledrugs.il.gov Thanks! :hi:

"HERE ARE THE FACTS:

Skyrocketing drug prices hurt consumers and taxpayers.

The average cost per prescription for seniors rose by 48% between 1992 and 2000, and is expected to continue increasing another 72% by 2010 (Families USA study).
Twenty-two percent of seniors let prescriptions go unfilled and skip doses of medicines to make prescriptions last longer, and close to one in four seniors report spending at least $100 per month on their prescription medicines (study by Dana Gelb Safran, ScD, Director of The Health Institute at Tufts-NEMC).
While prices soar, more Americans must pay for their medications out-of-pocket. The number of Americans without health insurance the entire year rose in 2002 to 43.6 million, or 15.2% of the population.
Many U.S. consumers are turning to other countries for relief.

Right now, consumers in Canada pay 30% to 50% less for the same drugs.
More than one million Americans already purchase their medicines from outside the American market.
In 2001, pharmaceutical companies imported $14.7 billion of drugs into the United States for Americans’ consumption.

1. I signed it! Even though I don't believe in taking drugs for
myself..I know sometimes it must be the only way to help some People and it's a crime the way the drug companies have a high priced monopoly on it.

5. Signed...number 373
I saw my mom struggle to pay co-pays for perscription drugs during her last few years and it was heartbreaking. Somehow, we got her through, but it should not be so difficult has has worked hard for so many years.

6. Done!
Recently, I heard a discussion of the issue. The side against getting affordable drugs like this asserted that there are programs within drug companies that help people get their meds free. They failed to mention that if you do qualify for these programs, it's limited to getting them for from one to about three months or so. Unless that has policy has been liberalized since we looked into for a relative several years ago.

7. I don't agree
The US should regulate it's own markets, not be forced to go to Canada to find better prices.

If our system of healthcare is so good, why the fuck is the government itself trying to go to other countries to get medicines? :wtf: does that mean?

8. It's an Illinois issue, specifically
Our good Democratic governor is trying to pressure the FDA into doing something about prescription drug prices nationally, or let states begin buying externally (in Canada, e.g.). It's a huge issue here in IL, because of the budget crisis and the State's responsibility to provide PD coverage for retired state workers, teachers and professors.
