Poll question: Max Cleland for VP??

What do you think of Max Cleland for VP? I personally think that he would be a great choice for any of the nominees, simply because of his experience and the fact that he's a war hero. What do you think? Respond below.

Disability doesn't keep any person down and Max Cleland has proved in his career and the other statment is that Max Cleland will be part of the team which defeats the Rove machine which went into overdrive to defeat Max in Georgia by trying to define him as unpatriotic and soft on defense.

I'd love to see him as VP. Makes me sick to my stomach everytime I think of what they did to him & how they got away with it.

I think he is due for a retirement. He has served us well (especially defending our country).

In public service, Senator Clelland found a richer, fuller life than any other possibilities open to him. As much bravery as he displayed in his volunteering to go to Vietnam, and his volunteering to take part in Operation Pegasus, for the relief of the siege of Khe Sanh (where he was injured), I think he displayed even more bravery and guts to overcome his loss of limbs to put in 30 years of public service. I hope to see him very active in the 2004 presidential campaign, followed by a cabinet level appointment.

6. No, that's really not a well thought out choice

It really would reenforce the huge stereotype of the democratic party, that all we do is pander to every needy interest at every opportunity

they decided to nominate a minority to lose, but then ensure the minority vote for years. One guy said "why not a cripple?"

nominating a triple-amputee would be the same thing.

A big part of a VP's job is to have advantages as a campaigner, which Cleland would obviously not, and to be healthy, where Cleland obviously is worse than Cheney.

There are many better choices.

John Lewis should be the next Veep, because of his experience, AND the fact he's a national hero, AND the fact he would pick us up some votes from the South AND the disenfranchised non-voting minorities.

Clelland would only be effective if Clark does not get the nomination. Lewis would grace any ticket.

There seems to be a pattern here of picking up losing Georgia candidates to "stick it" to the other side.

McKinney can't win her own district in a Democratic primary? Hey, that's OK! We'll run her state-wide for Senator. Cleland loses his Senate seat? That's no problem! We'll run him on the national ticket.

I'm all for picking a moderate southerner for the ticket. I was big on Edwards until not very long ago. But it has to be someone who can at least bring in his own state (why I'm cool on edwards now). Cleland on the ticket does not give us Georgia (though it could strangely help get that seat back from Miller).

including lies, slander, and a ton of money for her opponent. They were on a vendetta against her in particular because she pushed for an independent 9-11 investigation.

and eight years as VP would certainly give him the experience some people seem to feel he lacks right now.

Edwards has that Clintonesque ability to empathize, and he has a pretty strong television presence... almost like a down-home JFK, which would help a great deal.

His presence on the ticket might not win NC for us, but perhaps it could pull some Southern states in our direction. It's a very interesting suggestion, certainly.

Edwards is perfect, although some at DU argued that having him on the bottom of the ticket nullifies his natural southern-state advantage.

I've said for months Cleland would make a great VP candidate.

If nominated, it won't be because he's a triple amputee. He'd be nominated because he's an intelligent, driven public servant.

I mean, the GOP thugs wouldn't even have to spend money on new campaign ads to attack him. Just pull up the 2002 Usama morph, put in some new cards, and voila.

And he wouldn't carry Georgia, either. Like Florida, it's at least temporarily out reach, due to black box voting and general corruption.
