Guantanamo Bay--Kerry/Edwards/Dean/Clark people
I wonder what Kerry and/or Edwards would do about the 100's of people held indefinately for no reason, with no charges, and with no access to an attorney, and in violation of every concceivable article of law known to man.

I guess I am a bit more harsh on Kerry and Dean considering there voting patterns, and there general disregard of civil liberties. I say disregard because out of all the major candidates a current Senator would have the most influence to stop the atrocoties at Guantanamo, yet, they seem indifferent at best.

I am not so sure Dean or Clark would do much more than Kerry or Edwards, tey they are in less of a position to do as much. Though I would support Dean as a Presidential candidate.

Kucinich seems as if he would send them home?

I just wonder why you socially conscious progressive Democrats give such a free pass to Dems who voted for the IWR, Patriot Act, Tax Cuts, Dept of homeland Security, when it seems that those are at the heart of what has been wrong with W's administration. I also wonder why more attention is not paid to the 100's locked away for no reason in Guantanamo, and how your favorite presidential candiate would handle these people.

I would bet it would not be much differentf rom the way Bush is handling them. At least for the majority of candidates.

1. Good luck convincing people to change their mind and support Kucinich
and keep it up Wallace, I've been trying too. Its hard work but people are just gonna shove down the rhetoric that Kucinich doesnt have a chance etc, I think he has a bigger chance if we give him it.

6. Saw him last night on CSPAN
He is awesome, really impressive!
He is doing the right thing, not marketing his campaign like the others do. He seems to have integrity and a whole lot of strength.

He might never get the nomination, but I am thankful that his voice is there, and I hope people in the Democratic Party hear him.

7. Thanks judy
The message is the best thing but he is a pretty interesting guy too. You're right its gonna be hard for him to get the nod but I feel that if we worked hard he could that means people gotta stop this superficality that just saddens me. He reflected on his grandfather's immigrant roots, I would do the same. He has something magical about him. I hope he is president. Its not just the message the man who is Dennis Kucinich is something else.

2. To the best of my knowledge
...I'm supposing that Clark would review Gitmo. He is one of the few candidates (perhaps the only one? not sure) to endorse America's entrance into an international court of law. He believes in the legitimacy conferred by an international tribunal. That said, I am making the **supposition** that he would review the status of Gitmo.

It seems we are quick to forget the atrocities of the Bush Admin. I know no Democratic candiate is perfect, my favorites are Dean and Kucinich, (well I am a closet Sharpton fan) and there are a number of positions they hold of which I disagree.

That being said, I can not support the atrocities of the Bush Admin, nor can I support ANY candidate that will perpetuate these atrocities, whether it be Iraq, Guantanamo, or the Patriot Act.

Nor can I sit idly by while schools, and social services crumble, yet we find the cash to spend 87 billion in Iraq, and thats a starting point.

This illegal pre-emptive war, coupled with its costs which will deny many Americans social services they need and depend on, not to mention the economic ramifications it will have on us all, how could you support any candidate that does anything other than bring the troops home?

To date only Kucinich has said that will be his objective, though Clark and Dean may not have supported the war, they will not support a pull out either?

11. There is a reason and to be honest
Kucinich will not be able to pull out either just like that.

BTW, The boys were counting on this.

Under INternational Law we cannot just pack up and leave.
And we are a nation that likes to follow the law.

here are some of the obligations under that same Law.

We are now responsible for law and order (which under a demo
administration can be transfered to the UN, and the same
program used to train cops in both Haiti and Kosovo)

We are also responsible for providing the most basic of services.

Yes this means that we need to rebuilt the country to the point
that it can feed itself... again two ways of doing it.. the Bush
administration which is pork and war profeteering, or through
the UNHCR and other international Aide agencies that will use
local assets... will be cheaper as well

We are also responsible for helping to set a government. Now the
Bushitse are very specific as to what they want, a Colonial
Administrator in the mold of King Faisal (whom we had killed when
he got too independent of the brits), But it can be done,
through the use again of international bodies.

If bush stays in we are talking of at least 8 years troops in
country (assuming they manage to put the revolt down) then they
will declare victory and go home... it does match with the period
needed for Iraq to reach Peak Oil.

If a democrat comes in, I will almost bet on increased UN
participation, transfer of a lot of obligations to the UN...
Internationalization of the Occupation Force, and the police
trainers, who are being trained by our military... and scale down
and pull back of US troops... and yes reparations to Iraq, which
will probably run in the neighborhood of oh fifty billion
USD, or equivalent in Euros.

People have to understand, and Wolfie knows this, we cannot
just declare victory and go home...

8. When I saw Edwards speak earlier this year
he mentioned this. As a trial lawyer I can't imagine that he would support this kind of incarcertation without due process.

10. Pardon after pardon
They need to unconditionally pardon everyone who was captured under the patriot act and continue to pardon them until it is repealed.
