Poll: Most in Baghdad Want Troops to Stay

WASHINGTON -- When Gallup set out recently to poll Baghdad residents, the biggest surprise may have been the public's reaction to the questioners: Almost everyone responded to the pollsters' questions, with some pleading for a chance to give their opinions.

"The interviews took more than an hour to do, people were extremely cooperative with open-ended questions," said Richard Burkholder, director of international polling for Gallup. "People went on and on."

But many of those Iraqis still have sharply mixed feelings about the U.S. military presence.

The Gallup poll found that 71 percent of the capital city's residents felt U.S. troops should not leave in the next few months. Just 26 percent felt the troops should leave that soon.

However, a sizable minority felt that circumstances could occur in which attacks against the troops could be justified. Almost one in five, 19 percent, said attacks could be justified, and an additional 17 percent said they could be in some situations.

1. The question should be, "Who would you like to see in charge
of security in Iraq?

Also, if you were a polled Iraqi, wouldn't you wonder about how a "no" response might be received? Would you end up on a "terrorist" watch list or find yourself indefinitely detained?

2. I absolutely do not believe US polling reports on Iraqis...
there's simply too many unknowns. Given that we've seen how skewed the US polls can be, I think that giving Gallup credibility in Iraq is a big mistake.

4. Man have you got that right.
150,000 troops in your country blowing up everything that moves, after days of "shock and awe" (remember that one?) and a guy pulls up to your door and says: "do you want us to stay"?

"Uhm, sure, sir, whatever you decide is just fine with us."

These "polls" are as fraudulent and ridiculous as the pretexts for the invasion.

More lies lies lies and death and destruction from the conquering maniacal PNACers who have invaded our government.

Its disgusting

5. Gallup is A Tool W/ No Credibility
Edited on Tue Oct-14-03 07:32 PM by Beetwasher
There is no way in hell they can vouch for the accuracy of this poll. How did they choose their sample? I'm assuming they only questioned people who weren't shooting at them. Other than that, I think the fact that a rep from an American Organization like Gallup (who the fuck else would be running a poll in Iraq? I mean come on, like the people didn't know just because they didn't tell them? Yeah right), asking someone questions about how they feel about the occupying power, while that power has soldiers with guns, tanks, planes and bombs everywhere, might make one inclined to say what they thinkg the Gallup rep wants to hear. This is an absurd poll. This along with their latest few polls that run in direct contrast to every other major poll, completely destroys any semblance of credibility the once might have had. They are pure, unadulterated propoganda.
