1. 1989 Toyota Corrola.

30 mpg. Yeah right, maybe if it were new. I get around 20-22. But hey, I'm a poor college kid, and its run smoothly for two years now, and it only cost $1500. I'll be looking for a used prius by the time I graduate.

4. A tune up or a new oxygen sensor might improve that mileage

I could not imagine a 4 cylinder, 2500 pound automobile consuming so much gasoline. Your spark plugs may be worn out, or the wires. Check the fuel filter, too.

8. My 1978 Datsun B210 used to get 23/30mpg city/hwy

That was a pretty unsophisticated car with a carburetor, no ECM (engine controller) and a 1400 cc engine. It weighed about 2100 pounds. A 1989 Corolla should outperform it. My 1989 Celebrity got 21/30 always and it had a 6 cylinder 2.8 liter engine it weighed 2950 pounds. The Toyota should outperform that easily.

13. Fix it.

My '88 Corolla wagon gives me up to a real 40 mpg on the highway, and averages over 30.

That's with a stick-- auto shouldn't take more than 5 mpg off that.

2. Great site

I'm in the market for a hybrid or another 45mpg+ car. This site makes it easy to narrow down the choices.

Who the hell would buy an SUV that gets 12mpg? I'd literally feel sick driving it, imagining dollar signs rolling by on the odometer.

9. 1988 GMC S-15

2.5 four cylinder with 5 speed transmission. Gets 29 mpg in town and 37 on the road. Has 197,000 miles on origional motor. When you have to exist on social security you need to cut expenses.

Whan I bought it I thought I would have it for more than 5 years. The fact is that next years version is a significant improvement over mine and I will get a about 16,000 in trade in before discounts. 14. Just bought a new Honda civic hybrid

Didn't think I'd be able to afford a new car for at least a couple of years, but when I moved and Maryland told me my old car needed $900 in repairs to pass their safety inspection, I decided now was the time.

I've never loved a car more! And as far as I can see, there is no reason why all cars shouldn't have hybrid motors... until we make the move to hydrogen, of course.
