In CA Clark has gender/age gap, Dean does not, but Clark ahead overall

Let me say here that I like both candidates. Whichever of these guys can beat Bush is fine with me. Just found this interesting:

From a recent California poll:

Clark has twice as many male voters as female voters.
Dean has about the same number of male and female voters.

Dean's appeal increases slightly with the age of the voters.

Clark's appeal increases with the age of the voters as well, but there is a marked increase for voters over 50.

At least according to these numbers, the "Dean basically appeals to young guys" theory submitted by some here and in the media doesn't have a leg to stand on. His support for women is about the same as men, and his support increases among older voters.

Clark appeals to men twice as much as women, and a significant amount of his support comes from those over 50. Speculation might be that he's a general and projects a mature attitude (I'm not a man or over 50, but those things appeal to me, too.)

Clark:

male 24%
female 12%

18-39: 8%
40-49: 17%
50 +: 24%

Overall 17% of state

Dean:

male 15%
female 13%

18-39: 9%
40-49: 13%
50 +: 17%

Overall 14% of state

1. Sounds like a great ticket to me
Hopefully these guys will team up and take it straight at Bush. While I was a bit upset with Dean's attacks on Clark in the Arizona debate I do not think the attacks were of a nature to preclude a ticket at a later time.

Any thoughts?

2. Voters over 50 tend to vote in significantly higher
percentages which could help Clark-should this very early trend continue...

3. With this kind of showing he'll make a GREAT VP
what else does he bring to the table?

5. if he can attract men like that
He should be the nominee, not the VP.

We need someone to take the angry, scared white man vote away from Bush.

And Dean can pick up his activist supporters by being the VP.

6. This is consistent with what I've seen
Our local Dean support is at least 1/2 female, and skews older for sure. I am 36, and probably on the young side of the curve for our group.

Clark is doing surprisingly well in Calif, though. I expect many visits here from both Dean and Clark over the next few months.
