What should happen to the Democratic leadership if 2004 is lost?
If Bush gets another four years and the GOP gains more Congressional seats as well as gains in state and local elections in 2004, what should be done about the leadership? Their meekness and playing it safe will be the undoing of the Democratic Party and America IMHO!

25. This demands a Monty Python paraphrase.
"We apologise for the fault in the elections. Those responsible have been sacked."

"We apologise again for the fault in the elections. Those responsible for sacking the people who have just been sacked have been sacked."

22. You know how bad that sounds, right?
You've been howling, as if howling is the way to do it?

Stop howling. Start at the bottom. If so many of us are so pissed off, then why are they still there? Because we are not acting. This isn't going to happen easily. It's going to take a lot of time and a lot of work, most importantly a lot of devotion to make our party what it should be again. Take your precinct. Get others to do the same. Then you control your county, then your state, then the whole party. That's how it is done.

The question is, who WANTS it more?

on their own. If not, the body will chop off the head. If course, I thought we would see wholesale change in 2002, but I guess that showed what I know. Terry knows best.

6. This is what I think will happen.
Edited on Wed Oct-15-03 04:45 PM by Cascadian
If Terry and Co. won't step aside, the progressive wing of the Democratic Party will break off from the centrists/rightists. Thus a weaker party will be the outcome. If they step aside then there will be an revival of the progressive platform in the Democratic Party and a new strategy will be introduced and a more aggressive and assertive Democratic Party will emerge.

10. Terry's real job?
Is to keep the Democratic Party neutralized. He probably gets a paycheck from the GOP too. Remember don't make waves. Play it safe and keel over when the repubs growl. Just like sheep.

BAA!

You said leadership and I realize that you mean like the DNC and Terry McAulife, but that could be taken to mean the house leadership which is Pelosi.

11. I was just referring to those who don't compromise and fight for ......
the core values of the Democratic Party. Act like a real opposition party. It could be anybody that has supported Bush's war and policies. Also those who do not question Bush's past and the lies him and his administration have been giving out. It can also be directed at the DNC and DLC too. There really needs to be a fundamental change in the Democratic Party all around.

16. One thing I can tell you about Pelosi
She coled the charge against IWR with Kucinich. I think that Kucinich or at least his ideas are the party's future, I dont know what this electablity is, I dont see the future, I know it wont be easy but impossible, we thought it was impossible that Bush would be so popular post 9/11 but now look where we got him. I miss the party a lot, it has stood up I admit, but I dont like whats it become.

12. If
...Bush gets another four years, it won't matter. Because there will only be one legal political party, one religion, and the Constitution will become nothing more then a muuseum attraction.

With more seats gained in the Congress, and the ability to appoint conservative judges to the federal bench, America as we know it will cease to be.

And if any of you really believe that the sheep will actually protest against this, I have some beach front property here in Arizona that I want to seel you. Lots of beach front just no ocean.

Let's face some facts, if the Republicans gain a majority of seats in Congress, the Democrats will become nothing more then what their Texas counterparts have become.

The people will look the other way once mass arrests start to take place, and will say nothing. Another thing that I would like to point out is even here on DU, we have a few potential collaborators.

In order for America to survive as a truly free and democratic republic some blood will have to be shed, some people will have to die, and let's face it, even here there are not that many who would make that sacrifice to remain free, they would rather skip out of the country to Canada.

Will this happen, maybe not, can it happen, most definitely. This current administration has no respect for the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, or States Rights, freedom of religion means only a fundamentalist form of Christianity, people of color are nothing more then second class citizens, and gays are to be shunned and denied the right to exist.

Is anyone here willing to resist this abomination if it should come to pass, or will the naysayers accuse me of wearing a tin hat. It really doesn't matter to me, because I will fight, and if neccessary die to keep my country free.

Which is more then can be said for the sheeple, and that includes some of the people on this board.

13. I believe you.
"Bush gets another four years, it won't matter. Because there will only be one legal political party, one religion, and the Constitution will become nothing more then a muuseum attraction."

Already starting to happen I am afraid.

"With more seats gained in the Congress, and the ability to appoint conservative judges to the federal bench, America as we know it will cease to be."

That is true too. They will be pushing their right-wing views further on us all.

"And if any of you really believe that the sheep will actually protest against this, I have some beach front property here in Arizona that I want to seel you. Lots of beach front just no ocean."

I am afraid you are right. I am also afraid the only way for Americans to wake up is for things to get worse. It maybe too late by then.

"Let's face some facts, if the Republicans gain a majority of seats in Congress, the Democrats will become nothing more then what their Texas counterparts have become."

Token opposition party no less.

"The people will look the other way once mass arrests start to take place, and will say nothing. Another thing that I would like to point out is even here on DU, we have a few potential collaborators."

That's already obivous. They support the DLC line.

"In order for America to survive as a truly free and democratic republic some blood will have to be shed, some people will have to die, and let's face it, even here there are not that many who would make that sacrifice to remain free, they would rather skip out of the country to Canada."

After 2005, I may leave the country! Like you said, not many people are going to resist. Just like sheep!

"Will this happen, maybe not, can it happen, most definitely. This current administration has no respect for the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, or States Rights, freedom of religion means only a fundamentalist form of Christianity, people of color are nothing more then second class citizens, and gays are to be shunned and denied the right to exist."

Abd they will stop at nothing to push this agenda. I will bet they will try to scuttle the 2004 election too.

"Is anyone here willing to resist this abomination if it should come to pass, or will the naysayers accuse me of wearing a tin hat. It really doesn't matter to me, because I will fight, and if neccessary die to keep my country free."

All I hope is you will have an army to help you fight. It is hard to be a general without an army. I do hope people will wake up.

21. Well if the Democrats stop acting like sheep then....
and just then maybe they will actually win. All this talk about staying in the middle is just futile!

The time for compromise and playing it safe is over. It's time to charge and fight!

17. Progressives Should Assume Power
We can start with giving McAullife the heave-ho and getting someone like Al Sharpton in there. For me, it will come down to a "they go or I go" scenario.

19. I don't know about Sharpton.
I cannot say who would be good for the leadership in the Democratic Party. Moseley-Braun would be a good choice though.

18. I submit
That it isn't about the leadership. Or, that is, I submit that we make it NOT about the DLC. Take over your precinct.

The leadership is only the leadership because they haven't been dethroned. So let's dethrone them.
