somebody wanna explain 'repentance' to Pat?
An uncontrite Pat Robertson called Monday for a purge at the U.S State Department, even as he also acknowledged that author Joel Mowbray had not called for the agency to be blown up.
During a broadcast interview with Mowbray two weeks ago, Robertson said the writer's latest book, ``Dangerous Diplomacy: How the State Department Threatens American Security,'' compelled him to conclude that a ``nuclear device'' should be detonated at the State Department's Washington headquarters.
Those comments, which Robertson made while hosting ``The 700 Club'' television program on the Virginia Beach-based Christian Broadcasting Network, were rejected as ``despicable'' last week by a State Department spokesman. The rebuke was widely reported by the media.
``I want to correct my remarks,'' Robertson said Monday during another broadcast interview with Mowbray. ``Joel did not say, `Nuke the State Department,' so we've changed. We're not going to nuke it, we're going to gut it.''
Robertson said his earlier remarks had been an attempt to characterize ``in a laughing fashion'' the pessimistic tone of Mowbray's book.
