When presented at an Aug. 20 council meeting, the Arcata resolution, which the panel declined to take up at that time, said: "The City Council of the city of Arcata calls upon the United States House of Representatives to immediately impeach George W. Bush and Richard B. Cheney."
According to the paper, the case for impeachment in the proposal focuses on the war in Iraq and Bush's now-infamous 16-word statement in his State of the Union address regarding African uranium.
Arcata Mayor Bob Ornelas said he would vote for the resolution, according to the report. ....
