Bush/Frist 2004?

I was thinking what if Cheney is dropped for 2004. He has made lots of money, was chosen as a last resort in 2000, and has a bad heart to so he might want to enjoy he huge Halliburton fortune since he cannot take it with him to hell. If would also be good to set up someone for 2008 to win the nomination that Bush & CO. want.

My thought goes to Frist. Frist is very popular, comes from the South, and is a Doctor. A heart surgen of all things as well. He has risen quickly in the party and is respected by most Democrats.

Could this change the dynamics of who we should nominate in 2004?

Do you really think they will keep a guy who has had about 4 heart attacks that we know about?

Do you think that Cheney can handle the problems and travel of a close national campaign?

I really think Cheney is gone. I would be surprised if Cheney can even campaign and survive four more years of the stress of the office.

that would add a whole totally different dynamic to the race on top of the all the whole totally different other dynamics out there.

I don't know that they've said one way or another on Cheney, but let's face it, he can not run for president. So if Jeb or Bill Frist runs in 2008 (and horror upon horrors, President George Bush wins in 20040 they don't have the record to run on. Which might benefit them the way things are going.

So I think its a fair speculation. Hillary on the other hand has said she will not run in 2004.

Most people assume that having Cheney on the ticket (who can't run in 2008) will leave room for Jeb Bush in 2008.

5. bill frist wants to run for president

i think they would ask bill frist. but whether he accepts would depend on bush's standing at the time being asked. if bush's lies no longer work and people continue opposing him, bill frist would probably want to sit it out and just run himself straight for president in 2008 and not be tainted by being on a ticket with someone who will lose a national election again. but i agree about cheney not being on the ticket in 2004. i think they will get rid of him along with rumsfeld and try to put out the perception that any problems with the administration are a result of them and now they are gone so things would get better.

But you could be right. I just wonder who they could replace Cheney with. I really don't see Rice being on the ticket. I also think there are few he could put on the ticket that would actually help Bush more than they hurt him. I would love to see him put his brother on the ticket, LOL. That would be great!

11. Ole Cheney won't go anywhere unless

it's kicking and screaming. Power hunger nut case. Frist is not very effective at all in the Senate and I don't think Dems like him and neither do Repukes - they just act like they do. Frist is an egotistical (I am a docotor-even on his door at the Senate) and spends most of his time bragging about his surgeries and how many lives he's saved. That's fine - go do that and get out period.

After reading the post this morning that the Bush admin is polling on the negative impact Cheney is having on the ticket, I started thinking of who they may pick. I know it is only wild speculation, but it may solve some issues for them. Just thinking out loud.

McCain as VP means they can keep a leash on him so he is no longer the rogue Republican in the Senate.

His military credentials would add that element to the ticket.

McCain appeals to independents and may even pull some crossover votes from people who read it as being a moderation of the administration. While Bush still holds the far right.

Also from the South.

Of course, McCain would need to want to be Vice President and I think this is the weakest part of my speculation. I'm not sure I see him wanting the job, since I don't think he really likes Bush. But he was on last night (I think) swearing his allegiance to the republican party.
