mean Jean
I'm watching David Gergen on Hardball and they're talking about last week when she directed her statements to Murtha and called him a coward.

Anyway Gergen said she may lose her seat over that..........I hope she does!

Apparently there is a rule that you can't use an insulting statement as a personal attack.

Yeah, I know she said she didn't intend to do that (in her apology) but really she did!! If she didn't want to use it as a personal attack, why would she even say it and direct the comment toward Murtha!! She clearly meant it as a personal attack. However she may not have known (at the time she said it) that she was breaking the rules.

1. She apparently claimed the other day that she didn't know Murtha had
been a decorated Marine...well if THAT is true, the woman is even stupider than Chimp. Hardly a qualification to hold office. Either that or she's a goddamn liar; I have no problem believing either or both.

5. Bullshit
She wouldn't have brought up the Marine analogy if she hadn't known his background.

Exactly...she knew
I wouldn't even be surprised if she was set up by the RW cabal to do it. But then again, she is so vile and nasty, she fits right in.
Whatever the reason, a Dem will be in that seat next year.

9. when I called today, her aide said he
didn't think that she was unaware of his military service. therefore....she did it deliberately as an attack, and is now trying to pretend otherwise.

19. I think she did it deliberately too..........

18. I heard some Republican try to defend her.........
..by saying she didn't know Murtha was a marine but I don't really believe that.

When she said that the quote came from another marine, I felt that she was saying this from one marine to another.

Of course I can't prove this because she didn't specifically say anything that would lead you to believe she knew Murtha had been a marine. But still, being the new kid on the block, if she didn't know, she should have asked someone..........before she goes shooting her mouth off!

"rule"? I mean, F off is pretty strong, even for tricky dick.

to hurl his expletives at Pat Leahy OFF the Senate floor -- in the corridor.

23. It was on the floor
Tuesday's exchange began when Leahy crossed the aisle at the photo session and joked to Cheney about being on the Republican side, according to Carle. Then Cheney, according to Carle, "lashed into" Leahy for remarks he made Monday criticizing Iraq contracts won without competitive bidding by Halliburton, Cheney's former employer.

Leahy, Carle said, retorted that Democrats "have not appreciated White House collusion in smears" that Democrats were anti-Catholic for blocking judicial nominees such as William H. Pryor Jr. Democrats demanded that Bush disavow the allegations by conservative groups, but the White House did not.

snip--------

There is no rule against obscene language by a vice president on the Senate floor. The senators were present for a group picture and not in session, so Rule 19 of the Senate rules -- which prohibits vulgar statements "unbecoming a senator" -- does not apply, according to a Senate official. Even if the Senate were in session, the vice president, though constitutionally the president of the Senate, is an executive branch official and therefore free to use whatever language he likes.

4. She should resign
no matter what the rules state. I think with the repub machine behind her, she'd manage to keep her seat, although nobody would ever let her speak again. So she needs to quit now without comment. Just issue a statement something like this, "I quit." Then just fade away and never be heard from again.

20. she should but.........
.....how many times have other Republicans voluntarily surrendering their positions because they got in unethical behavior?

I don't think I've ever heard of any and I doubt this one would resign either. Sure, that would be the responsible thing to do but that doesn't mean she'll do it.

6. I say we bombard her office with demands that she resign
Until she is removed or steps down. We should make it impossible for her to conduct any normal business. I, for one, plan on doing my part.

10. How is she playing back home?
I would really like to know what the newspaper editorials are saying in her district now. Does anybody know?

I would like them to conduct a poll:

1) Do you approve or disapprove of her performance?
2) Do you support Schmidt's comments on the House floor?
3) Would you support a movement to recall her?

By the way, when she was campaigning (what I saw of it anyway), she was nothing but a mouthpiece for the administration. She did not seem to have any original thought--only what was spoonfed to her by the RNC.

16. Local media seems to be downplaying the story
It seems like a much smaller story here than it is nationally. Cincinnati Enquirer did have a front page article (below the fold) Saturday and very little since. Channel 5 television still has some coverage today. Link to that coverage on channel 5's website is http://www.channelcincinnati.com/news/5376320/detail.html

21. haha..........I guess they don't like her either!!
If she is on her way out, they would probably have another election. If they do, I hope Hackett runs again and wins!! After all, everyone knows him by now and with more time to campaign, it would give him time to prove that he's the one they should have chosen in the first place!
