"Was Iraq a direct and eminent threat to Israel? If it was, why didn’t Israel take action?"
We are all idiots! Left Wing, Right Wing, the media, all of us are… idiots. If Saddam was even a remote threat to anyone except a rival Arab or Islamic state, the badest military in the Middle East, Israel, would have killed that threat. We all fell in the lying well. Some of us clawing and scratching at the wet, jagged and slippery walls. A lot of us going along for the ride - willingly. We all fell for a fuckin colossal crock of shit. A financially driven hostile take over. If the USA was to invade Israel today: Israel has nuclear weapons; Israel does not belong to any significant nuclear treaty. Israel can deliver nuclear weapons by land and sea. Nuclear armed Israel has a formidable and extremely well trained conventional military machine. Example: they have the best fighter-bombers in the world. (F-15I) Substitute Israel for Iraq and you would be seeing unparalleled sophistication of warfare. Our military losses, without nukes being used, would be in the tens of thousands, our economy would be crippled.
Iraq would have needed to increase its military budget ten fold for the next 30 years just to approach Israel’s present day level of military leverage. Israel is top dog over there; it would have taken out anything remotely approaching a real threat from Saddam.
Keep an eye on Iran’s reactors.
