What have those who support bush sacrificed?
After 9-11, bush asked the country to 'sacrifice' some of their livelihood for the good of the country. I would like to know what the people who support bush and his policies, have sacrificed.

What I have seen is an elite group that has taken the country on a ride of fiscal irresponsibility. Has there been a sudden upsurge of love of country by that elite that I missed? Have those that skimmed millions off the top gone out and refilled the national Treasury?

Where are the sons and daughters of the elitists? They are not on the ground in Iraq, nor are they in the air over Iraq, where are they? Where is the sacrifice of elitist blood on the dust and sand of Iraq? My Army experience has shown me that 'Blue' blood soaks into the ground just as well as red; graves are holes in the ground that are uncompromizing in acceptance.

Have these elitists offered any form of sacrifice?

Is there ONE example of what these people are willing to give up to preserve the country? So far, the only thing I have seen them give up voluntarily is their dignity.

Can anyone come up with an example of 'sacrifice' these individuals speak so fondly of that they have actually come forward with and done?

Just asking.

10. Look at Powell. Has no shred of credibility left.
When he came in, he was internationally held in high regard as a man of honor.

His blatant (and easily disproven - now done) lies before the UN Security Council cost him his reputation.

But I am sure that he will find a lucrative life outside of this administration, so unless he had a goal of serving in high public office (higher than he already is, that is), I don't know that it has 'cost' him in the general sense.

13. I agree...
It took me along time to register my emotions against Powell. I truly thought he was the one shining light in this admin, so much for that.

I find it interesting that Christie Todd-Whitman turned out to be the one with scruples enough to leave this soiled group of idiots.

5. Some, although very few,
of Bush's supporters are actually in Iraq. Of course, no one of wealthy upbringing is over there.

I respect people who support Bush and his policies ONLY if they are willing to fight for it. In my opinion, there is nothing lower than anyone who vigorously supports the war but doesn't have the balls to go serve.

They call me anit-American, but they won't even stand up for what they claim to belive in?

Sorry, off topic...

Back to your point:

No one is sacraficing a damn thing. "Support the troops" is just a catch phrase, nothing more.

7. I have...
that is how I came to this question.

So far......all I get are blank stares, as if we are not supposed to sacrifice anything for those that are in combat. RWer's are repulsive in that aspect. They want everything, but refuse to pay for it.

9. I don't know if you can call it a sacrifice -

1. Some of our civil rights have been taken away.

2. Many have lost jobs & money all under the same roof of terrorism of this administration.

3. Soldiers are coming home in body bags and some soldiers are lying in hospitals minus arms, legs, eyes and other parts of the body.

No one can doubt the money the Carlyle Group has made in selling of arms and the money Halliburton and like companies will make because of special deals made with this administration.

Nepotism and cronyism is alive and doing well at the expense of the taxpayer and the poor.

11. Those are indeed sacrifices...
Edited on Thu Oct-16-03 06:50 PM by rasputin1952
but none of those affect the elitists and those that rabidly support the administrations position.

As usual, those at the the top, the 'privledged', benefit but do not place anything into the pool without kicking and screaming all the way.

on edit: I should have stated that those items were sacrificed on the altar of political expediency by this administration. In order for one to make a PERSONAL 'sacrifice', it must be freely given with no strings attached. To sacrifice ones wealth for the good of the nation would be a good example. end edit

8. I've heard that some of them have given up drinking from the toilet.
Er, maybe that was a Lent thing...I have trouble distinguishing one sacrifice from another.

14. In reality: a ton of them have lost over 1/3 of their investments
Don't expect most of them to run out and vote for the Democratic Party in 2004, however.

A lot of wealthy retirees here in Florida and elsewhere have had to go back to work.

Most of them think that the losses have all been caused because of 911 AND the "war on terrorism."

Makes it hard to feel a lot of sympathy for the ones who voted for Bush OR will vote for him again.

"If you're like most investors, you've lost a lot of money in the last few years, and you're worried about how to recover your losses. How much has the market really lost lately? Since March 2000, the market has dropped 39 percent!1 How does that compare against other market drops?

The Great Depression, the worst economic disaster of the 20th Century, saw the market drop by 83 percent.2 The great bear market of 1973-74, which devastated millions, saw a 37 percent drop.3 The sudden drop of 1987 was a free fall of 34 percent.4 The market of the last few years ranks prominently among the worst market periods in history!

Were you heavily invested in Nasdaq? The news is even worse. Nasdaq dropped about 74 percent from its peak in 2000 through July 2002.5 What can you do to regain such mind-boggling losses? Should you just wait it out? If you do, don't be in a hurry. If Nasdaq returned a solid 10 percent every year from now on, it would take until 2017 to get back to 2000 levels. What are your other options?"

15. But that is not a 'sacrifice'...
they were trying to earn money in the market, and in the gamble they lost.

In order for something to be a 'sacrifice', it needs to be given freely, without remorse and no strings attached. I have no sympathy for those that lose in the market, there is little difference between it and a game of three card monte.

17. Precisely my point...
It is always the backs of others that enable these people to move ahead.

As long as they don't have to pay a price. They are more than willing to allow others to pay with life, limb and the little they have in money of posessions, but far be it from them to accept resposibility for the fiasco's they so wontingly desire.

It is sad and disgusting at the same time.

I hate Chickenhawks and war profiteers. May they find their personal hells right here on earth.
