Did you know Eli Pariser of MoveOn.org is backing CLARK?
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 02:57 PM by Skinner
No link, but this is from a Business Week piece dated 10/20. A friend sent me this in a pdf:

-snip-
To compensate, Clark has assembled a squad of rainmakers that includes New Yorkers Sarah and Victor Kovner, Eli Pariser of MoveOn.org, Hyatt hotel scions J.B. and John Pritzker, Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner. . . .

4. I am still waiting but did send money to Dean.
I did like McCain or his speaking out but he turned into a wimp also. I like to see if any will not sell out the nearer they get to maybe making it. Not many do stick to their beliefs. The carrot of money and power is to strong. Look at Bush. Look at his father. Reagon I think did believe even if I did not like him. I know you have to bend but their is a fine line here.Course you could say I am very opened minded or just plain wishy washy if you like.

8. That's another thing Clark's got going for him
Read the part where he mulls over running and about why power is not the lure for him. He was already one of the most powerful people in the Europe and the world.

5. I support Clark after listening to Michael Moore on Democracy Now
Actually, Michael Moore supports either Clark or Oprah Winfrey - because they can get ELECTED!

Good for Eli - he's helping to boot Bush out.

18. Part of what I like about Moore is what he said about that
I don't have a link to the quote, but he has basically said backing Nader, in hindsight, probably wasn't the greatest idea. He simply misunderstood the dynamic in that election.

6. As a Clark supporter. . .
. . .I am kind of shocked. I appreciate the support but I would have expected Pariser to sit this one out.

11. Definitely surprising
I kind of expected for them to stay neutral like DU. I guess Pariser felt strongly about Clark. Of course, I can see how this can be Pariser's position outside of Moveon.org. Every person should have the ability to express his own opinion, no matter what organization they belong to. It would be like Skinner endorsing a candidate, but DU not endorsing a candidate. Just because Skinner runs DU doesn't mean he can't have his own preferences in candidates.

14. We sort of agree on this.
I would feel uncomfortable if he were working in support of Dean also. It seems he should be very neutral in such a position as he has.

7. Speaking of Move-on ....they have really slowed the pace of
rallying against the war that IS STILL ON!!!!!

Where are the organized marching rallies????

Why aren't people marching against a war that is worse now than
when Saddam was in.

Is Move-on accepting Bush's announcement that the "War is Over"???

I am disappointed in Move-on in the last 2 months!!!

10. Tell them about it. They supposedly listen to their members. There is
the Oct. 25th Prostest. And many cities and towns already have their own "candlelight vigils" and standing protests. Here in NC they are ongoing. Small groups who come out every week.

15. They've been running TV ads like crazy
...so we can actually get our message on the tee-vee without some anchorperson portraying us as a band of birkenstock-wearing granola munchers.

16. MoveOn organized support against the California recall and

against the Texas redistricting. The most recent e-mails from Move-On have dealt with the $ Bush* wants for Iraq:

"We're trying to get 100,000 calls, emails, and faxes to Congress by the end of the week. Congress must let the President know that without a plan, without working with the UN, without firing the staff responsible for the mess in Iraq, his $87 billion proposal is just no good. "

and Bush* PR programs:

"Dear MoveOn member,

As the true cost of the Iraq war is becoming clear, and as Congress debates the $87 billion, the Bush administration is on a PR offensive. President Bush and other officials did a series of exclusive interviews with regional media outlets in hopes of circumventing the national papers that might ask tough questions or scrutinize his statements closely. And newspapers across the country received letters ostensibly from soldiers in Iraq describing their successes there -- all of which were identically worded. Some soldiers didn't even know about the letter that was sent in their name to their hometown paper. (The Olympian, 10/11/03)

We need to counter the Bush administration's PR offensive with letters to the editor of our own -- letters that tell the truth about the situation in Iraq. Please take a few minutes to write a letter today. If you are a veteran or a family member of someone in the armed forces, we especially need your help in countering the administration's propaganda."

17. Why sit it out? Wes Boyd is a vocal Dean supporter. They are people too!
And I am glad my man has a supporter in there too. I was spreading the word about the Moveon even when I thought they'll be for Dean. Now I feel better. They are quite representatve of us - if you looked at the polls.

19. How does Eli Pariser feel about Clark's flips on Iraq war?
I attended one of those candle light vigils this spring. As I recall, Moveon helped organize these.

It seems to be in the pay section of Business Week online.

listings

There are a few articles from Business Week Online dated October 20th, 2003 about Clark. I don't know if one of the might be the PDF sent to you. The first and third ones on the list seem like possibilities.

25. I think you're reading too much into that one sentence
Pariser had offered his services/advice to all of the candidates.

prior to Clark's entry to the race, only the Dean campaign had taken him up on that offer.
