We have not yet seen any adverse indications with respect to recruiting or retention that are notable. There's one indicator in one service with respect to one category that is soft --

SEC. RUMSFELD: It is the Army. And I'm trying to think if it's the Guard or the Reserves.

GEN. MYERS: It's the Reserve component. I think it's the Reserve component specifically.

SEC. RUMSFELD: But overall, the indicators remain good.

.... I've read the articles. Well, I've skimmed the Stars and Stripes. I've read the one that was in the Washington Post, I think -- was it today? -- whenever it was. And it's useful insight. 7. Senator Max Cleland just said that the 'draft' decisions must be

made by March 2004...we just have no more troops to protect our country....anyone who feels otherwise is simply naive...


the other option noted by Max was to call up MORE troops, who are non-existent....

I remember Vietnam, and all it takes is one stroke of the pResidential pen and your sons are gone....if this $87 Billion gets funded, then there will be no stopping it...Vietnam was the same, more money poured on it meant more drafting and more deaths...just bring our troops home NOW...get out this boondoggle NOW...cut off the funds to the big war machine NOW....feeding this horrible war machine more money will only make things worse, like Vietnam....stop it NOW....

8. It may take something of this type to wake Americans up to what's going

on in America today. I would almost like to see the draft renewed for the sole purpose of getting middle America to sit up and pay attention. When it is your child on the line and not just some "volunteer" you deffinitely pay more attention to what is happening concerning them.

10. if again, young men are not on the streets for the October 25th

protests, then it is another sign for rummy and the shrub to institute the draft....as Senator Max said...the draft needs to be in place before March 2004 (and that's only 4 months away)...Max knows and young men should pay attention and take action...

this upcoming protest (Oct. 25) may be the last chance to save their lives/limbs...politicians take note of the numbers...with no young men objecting, what's to stop the draft???

11. The wont let the Reserve Units leave when their time is up

They wont let them discharge, they keep signing them back up for active duty ....they are basically forcing them to stay to be deployed...
Its a draft, in a sense, by forcing our sons and daughters in the National Guard units and Reserve units to stay in...called StopLoss...Its total Bullshit..these kids cant leave even when their time is up..
My sons discharge papers were supposed to be Nov 17....forget about it,. they wont let him go..they wont let any of them go when their time is up..they just keep rechanging the deck chairs and reloacting the units,.
In other words, Rummy and all the other bastards over there dont know what the F they are doing...period...!
