O'Reilly's Harvard "Credential"
Bill O'Reilly never passes up an opportunity to inform his viewers that he has a Harvard degree; while at the same time preaching a clearly anti-intellectual and anti-academic bias. His black-and-white views of the world are the anithesis of what is taught at Harvard, and every other credible institution of higher learning. I would be interested in reading some of the papers O'Reilly wrote while studying at Harvard - I'll wager they don't promote the simple-minded jingoism and bigotry he esposes today.

1. I don't like how O'Reilly
always emphasizes he's a Harvard dude. When he did that show with the editor from the magazine "The Source", he made it like Harvard was a big deal. I mean, having a Harvard degree is good and all, but he made it seem like a cultish, elitist thing. The editor was also a Harvard grad, but I think he was kind of turned off by what O'Reilly said because he doesn't like being thrown into that stereotype.

11. Cerebral Viagra
The fact that O'Reichlly has to mention that he is a Harvard man as a selling point of his persona only goes to show a lack of. Just like the guy who brags of a rabid sex life, and how tough he is. These all are insecure positions just like the one O'Reichlly possesses. Harvard may be his cerebral Viagra, especially when those around him know his thoughts are limp!

2. I'd be curious to know if he actually has that degree...
...it may be as real as his peabody award!

3. What degree does he claim to have?
Actually, anybody can go to, say, Harvard Summer School--it's something that makes tons of money for Harvard. Also, there's a night school for the community. And the journalist program is non-degree (the one for mid-career people)--though I think you have to be pretty special (or, maybe, have someone powerful pulling for you) to get invited into it....

If he has an undergraduate degree, then he is one of Harvard's failures to do its job, for sure.

4. If he has his name on a paper it belongs to the college
and you should be able to do a data search of that college and find the papers. If they were written.

his Harvard situation, I think (emphasis is mine).

O'Reilly was accepted into the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in early 1995. He subsequently resigned from his job at "Inside Edition," and prepared to go back to school by writing his first book, "Those Who Trespass: A Novel of Murder and Television," which is now in its second printing.

In the spring of 1996, O'Reilly received an M.A. in public policy from Harvard, and immediately took a job as the executive producer and anchor of "The O'Reilly Factor"...

So... he spent a year at Harvard writing a shitty thriller... when he was already a 40-50 year old tabloid journalist...? That's not the image he tries to project. He lets on like he was a student there.

6. O'Reilly's Bio From Foxnews.com.........

Bill O'Reilly joined FOX News Channel (FNC) as the anchor/host of The O'Reilly Factor in 1996.

Upon graduating from Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York with a degree in History, he taught high school for two years in Miami, Florida. O'Reilly returned to school to pursue a Masters in Broadcast Journalism from Boston University.

After receiving his Master's degree, O'Reilly began his television news career in Scranton, Pennsylvania, followed by stops in Dallas, Denver, Portland, Oregon, Hartford, and Boston. In 1980, he anchored his own program on WCBS-TV in New York and later became a CBS News correspondent covering the wars in El Salvador and the Falkland Islands, among other assignments.

In 1986, Bill O'Reilly joined ABC News as a correspondent on The World News Tonight. During his three year tenure, he appeared on the show more than one hundred times, and received two Emmy Awards and two National Headliner Awards for excellence in reporting.

O'Reilly's career changed in 1989 when he joined the nationally syndicated Inside Edition as senior correspondent and backup anchor. Within three weeks, he took over the anchor chair from David Frost. During his six years at Inside Edition, the show was one of the highest-rated "infotainment" programs in America.

In 1995, O'Reilly left to enroll in the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University where he received a Master's Degree in Public Administration. Upon leaving Harvard, Roger Ailes, chairman and CEO of the then startup FOX News Channel, hired O'Reilly to anchor The O'Reilly Factor.

How do you get a masters degree in one year ?

Notice his bio does not mention the year he went to the university of london. He went to london to
avoid the vietnam war draft. And the reason he taught high school in florida for 2 years was so he
could avoid the draft extension bill from the vietnam war. He is a two time draft dodger. BTW,
O'Reilly's dad paid for him and his sister to attend private schools, middle school, high school,
and college. And he paid for Bill to attend the school in london, plus he did it all with no financial
aid, yet he claims he grew up in a humble and poor working class family.

His dad was an oil company accountant for a company called Caltex. In 1980 when he retired he
was making $35,000 a year, which is worth $92,000 a year in todays dollars.

He also claims he grew up in Levittown, a middle class working man area. In fact he grew up
in Westbury long island. A semi-wealthy section of long island. Al Franken called his mom and
asked her where they lived when Bill was younger, she said Westbury. Yet Bill keeps saying
he grew up in Levittown.

7. I Dunno'bout, "His... views...are the anithesis of what is taught at Harv"
Judging from Ruben NAVARRETTE, another Affirmative Action dude (like C.THOMAS, not O'REILLY) who emerged from his Harvard (not THOMAS) education being "an independent thinker"-----meaning WINGNUT, the way Clarence THOMAS emerged from AA not subscribing to "the conventional minority views"-------it would seem that the UNFERTILE minds are taught the "devil's advocate" trick and they come to equate going contrary to their traditions as automatically meaning they are "smart". Otoh, I don't think what I'm saying here applies to O'REILLY because his world view was formed by the time he continued being an old "student" and he sez himself he never much learned from others anyway.

9. is he married? does he have any children?
another thing....

I've heard that in his book (I won't waste my time reading it) he has a lot of rules for raising children. Does anybody know if he actually has any kids? Has he ever been married? What's up with this guy? Is he the most full of B.S. guy on the planet or what?

10. He Married VERY Late, Now Has a 3yrold Dtr
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 02:13 PM by UTUSN
He talks all the time about how he was always disco-ing and striking out with babes, wonder why. But it's his m.o.----this makes him an expert on childrearing. Like, he taught school for two years and he lectures on education. Heck, he practices law without a licence----and without basic concepts. Just the other day, he was yammering that there should be penalties for bringing frivolous or false criminal charges (such as, against Kobe) the same way there are in civil cases. This coming from the dude who pushed the libel suit against FRANKEN, a case "totally without merit". Pay up on the frivolous lawsuit, O'REILLY.
