Where do we find todays Woodword, Bernstein and DEEPTHROAT?
I have been reading and occasionally posting to DemocraticUnderground for the last two years or so and have increased my understanding of how the political world works by a thousand-fold.
If I want to find out what is happening on the world scene in as close to realtime as I can get I go to DU.
If I wish to make sense out of what is happening on the world scene I go to DU.
If I need help in understanding the bits and pieces of information and disinformation that I am subject to on a daily basis I go to DU.
DU has its lurkers and freepers and disrupters and some even as fanatic and orthodox and myopic as those on the right.
Nowhere else in print, radio, or television media will you find a greater assemblage of Tinfoil Hatters and Grassy Knoll Society members.
What I find at DU is access to the greatest intelligence network ever to have existed in the history of mankind. It is a democratic truth and opinion searching mechanism which embodies the best that information technologies and humanity has to offer.
There is no one member nor any one source of information and opinion. Rather there is this massive 'neural' network, if you will, that funnels information from objective and subjective sources for the express purpose of allowing individuals to access the incredible depths of possibilities and probabilities.
The internet and the incredible capacity of the collective of information posters, when left uncensored, creates an environment ripe for seekers and sharers of truths and non-truths.
It is amongst freeflowing truths and non-truths that one can then implement ones own gift of discernment.
The Bernsteins and Woodwards and DEEPTHROATS are already here. DU is so rife with them that we take them for granted

1. Ok, well, in the case of that last comment
I would ask them to be a bit more forthcoming with important information. Perhaps a special icon or something?

I'm only talking about a way to make more people aware that the information being presented is especially important. Any ideas?

3. Ask any TinFoil Hatter Or Grassy Knoll Member
Each bit of information is not in and of itself a loud bold statement. Some information bits are inconsequential. Some are heralded as significant when in reality they are meant to mislead. The only place to create significant meaning is within ones own bio-proccessor.
I guess that what I am saying is that we can only recognize the importance of information for ourselves.
Creating a sales technique to sell others on an idea is what one might find on another posting board.

2. Considering the "safety record" of those who have either outed or
have fought against this regime (plane crashes. murders, "suicides", etc.) I'll bet some are a little hesitant. Still, Scott Pelley and Ted Koppel have been doing some great stuff lately. Did you see 60 Minutes II and Nightline night before last? That was "Watergate class" reporting! The key now, is to see that followed up with a dozen more stories just like them, until we reach critical mass. When, there's safety in numbers, the birds will really sing!

4. Nah, not really. You're way overestimating the value of DU.
There are some good contributions here, & your point about the freeflowingness & non-centralized nature of the forum has some validity.

But your enthusiasm is dangerously overdone, IMO. Most of DU is just a bunch of Democratic Party loyalists. When you start out with a laughably unsupportable assumption like "The Democratic Party is a great force for social good," the computer maxim "Garbage in, Garbage out" applies. The results on the pages of DU can't be any better than the grounding assumption - & the grounding assumption is ridiculous.

Plus, there is the action of the candidate factions, which contributes hugely to a fall-off in quality. Much of what appears on DU is no better than children throwing poop at each other in a sandbox.

This kids-in-a-sandbox metaphor, unfortunately, is much closer to the truth than the "greatest intelligence network ever to have existed in the history of mankind."

7. No, they're working for Hill & Knowlton, writing p.r. crap
they couldn't make enough working as reporters to provide for their families or live in someplace nicer than a hellhole so they sold out and they moved into public relations. they dream of someday getting back into reporting, but they know they never will because you get paid SO DAMN WELL writing crap for rogue nations and leaders who need something from the u.S.

8. they were YOUNG men, who stood up...and I don't see any
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 12:30 PM by amen1234
young men standing up today....like Woodward and Bernstein, people who decided to STAND UP and are very successful financially too, they built their whole careers on Watergate...just whiners here complaining about old people like W & B....sad....

there are no YOUNG people willing to STAND UP today....they will all die like sheep in the upcoming slaughter (the draft)...wondering why they didn't even stand up to protest at all, and why they were so busy that they couldn't find time to save their own lives...

there are plenty of young people working on the Hill, but when I talk to them, they are all the ultimate gagagagagaga McDonald's or WalMart products...can't think and don't want to think...

during Vietnam, young people STOOD UP and protested, without any answering machines, without cell phones, without faxes, without internet...we STOOD UP because we felt the moral need in our minds to do something, to risk our lives ...

and now, with all the tools imaginable...it is hard for me to even get a few young volunteers to help with this March in DC on August 25th, and I have been working on it for a long time...

today's young people will die like sheep to the slaughter...we'll build another Wall in DC for them....
