1. Actually, I thought the Fox debate was waaay better than the CNN one.

3. Anyone offended by the "Weakest Link"-style presentation?

I think things like the Recall ("let's vote Gray Davis off the island) and subtly, but intentionally trying to make it look like the debates are like game shows (right down to the bitchy moderator turning her backs on people, talking over them, and belittling them)

It's a conscious strategy to make voting seem trivial and to demean the candidates (making them into contestants).

5. True, that was a low point BUT

I meant the constant interruptions by the LaRouchies. This hasn't happened at any of the other debates, so I think there must be something Faux did not do by way of security/planning that the others did right.

At the beginning of the debate, she prefaced the event by telling the candidates "Now, we know you want to bash President Bush*...blah blah"
This was totally uncalled for. This is the liberal media? From the git-go she tried to control the debate by "don't critize *."

Hell, these candidates are running BECAUSE of *'policies...please don't call it "bashing" Judy, you are just trying to shut eveyone up. Ain't gonna happen.

Bush* IS the problem, you idiot, so he MUST be criticized.

Though I also agree that the CNN was a disgraceful events , with Judy the Whore injecting her Bushevik self into thing as often as possible.

So that's true, how could Faux (planned Rovian disruptions aside) be any worse than CNN?

6. also how about this idea - attack Bush only at this debate

if I were the DNC strategist, I'd put that idea forth

the candidates focus the attacks on Bush (considering the viewership, not a bad idea, eh?)

keep it civil toward each other (that means no dirty fax tricks, no Jan Brady jealous mantras, etc.)

8. Debates

I thought the purpose of debates was to let the candidates explain the differing approaches their administration would take. There's plenty of time to take on Bush after they have presented their case to we Democrats. If they're all up there attacking Bush, how am I to know which platform I like the best? I can read their websites (which I have), but I like to see them answer questions and challenge each other on the issues. It's good for the Party.

they need to seperate themselves at these debates. There will be time and places to get after Bush. People need to learn the differences between the candidates.

And if its on Fox, who cares. Maybe someone will see it who wouldn't have if it was on another channel.

12. My fear is all they will see is a bunch of Democrats

tearing each other apart, get turned off, and say politicians are all the same, so why bother (or worse than that, stick with Bush.) I'm a Democratic activist, and I was turned off BIG TIME. I want to hear their policy and how they REASONABLY field REASONABLE challenges to this policy. I wasn't seeing this in previous debates.

It's fine to disagree respectfully, but the tone has been petty bickering way more often. Lost in the midst of this was attacks on the REAL culprit, George W. Bush.

I see nothing constructive in WILLFULLY misrepresenting each others' views to win points.
