Is this man a lunatic?
I took one look at this and I am thinking "Holy Sh__t! This man is crazy!" This confirms to me that the government is being overrun by armeggedonists and liars.

I wonder what Wesley Clark thinks of this General? He makes Clark look like a saint. Not putting down Clark or anything.

10. A Handmaid's Tale
Okay... Did that book scare the shit out of anybody else or was it just me? We may have to start including that one in the list with 1984 and Brave New World for the Repug handbooks for remaking America.

20. I reread Handmaid's Tale recently
It looks a lot closer to the BFEE plan even than 1984. A chilling, heartbreaking book. It scared the hell out of me when I read it years ago, and looks far closer to where we are headed now. I hope that Margeret Atwood doesn't turn out to be prescient. I'd certainly be shipped to the "colonies" in the Bush Republic of Gilead.

12. I don't think it's clear that he was not in violation of the rules.
Sure, that's the RW defense, but in a press conference (yesterday I think), Rummy and Myers really danced around this, trying not to say anything at all. Myers finally said it was a "gray area."

The guy was giving these whacko speeches IN UNIFORM. To argue for his "free speech" but go ballistic when ABC interviewed disgruntled soldiers in Iraq is, at best, hypocritical.

26. What's the fuss?? He's a lunatic who is reflexively against ALL
Muslims and you can't see a problem?? He is in charge of hunting terrorists and he thinks ALL Muslims are evil in advance and you don't think there's a problem?

I seriously doubt Muslims have anything to do with the vast majority of alleged 'Muslim terrorist acts', including 9-11. Remember, we have NEVER been given any concrete proof that OBL or Al-Quaeda were involved with 9-11-01 event. We have far more circumstantial evidence that the Bush Crime Family was involved. And we have LOTS of evidence that Saddam and Iraq had nothing to do with it and did not promote terrorism.

This man hates Muslims and will blame them for it everytime. Just like our loser Resident Cheerleader. That is the fuss.

See, it's occured to me: could this man's rhetoric be far more cynical than all that? Could this be Psy-ops - winning hearts and minds among America's unwashed faithful?

8. .
So... taking what appears to be the media's perspective on all of this...

It's ok to kill Muslims, but it's NOT ok to do it because God told you to. That's just freakin' great.

You know, I can't get over this. Big deals keep getting made out of garbage like this... meanwhile, absolutely NO attention has been paid to the lives or problems PEOPLE HE'S TALKING ABOUT KILLING!

17. Good point.
Too many Americans, like Bush*, are far too casual about killing. So many, in fact, that it isn't "newsworthy." It IS still rare in the mainstream (though not, apparently, among fundies) to hear somebody say Bush* was chosen by God, let alone that God approves of murder and mayhem. Also, this general's rhetoric was SO incendiary that it adds to the violence in the air--and many of us think he is expressing what many of Bush*'s supporters (and maybe Bush* himself) really believe.

You're right. The real outrage needs to focus on the real crimes. But this is potentially poisonous, dangerous talk, and I think it's reasonable to make sure people know about it.

23. "Still rare in the mainstream" Then you haven't heard Charles Stanley
one of the most popular tv evangelists, leader of InTouch ministries. I had the misfortune one sunday morning of channel surfing by his show just as he uttered the amazing phrase "God loves war". Nearly lost my pancakes.

This lunatic (Stanley) has a huge following. Here is a link to the "sermon" I tuned in on that day. It has been edited down from what I heard, and now only contains the idea that God favors war. Lots of handy biblical justifications for killing people. Don't eat before reading. http://www.intouch.org/War/index_38027182.html

...remember that they might not have the most *rational* reasons for doing so.

...I'm guessing Clark and General "Let's Revive the Inquisition" wouldn't have too much to say to each other...

19. In a sane society
In a sane society, a man who claimed that God told him to kill people would be in an asylum. In Bush's America, these same men have access to Weapons Of Mass Destruction.

21. There was another Lt Gen that was overly religious...
and a pretty good general to boot. LtGen "Stonewall" Jackson, not only was a religious zealot, he haed no problem with getting right out into the fray with his men.

While this guy is most likely no Jackson, he should understand that it is not necessarily God's Will to kill 'infidels' by the thousands.
People like this, give Freedom a bad name.

24. He's a fanatic
A much more dangerous person than just your garden variety loon. I cannot believe he will get away with this after Bush has been yelping for more than two years that this war on terrorism isn't a war against Islam. But at least someone in his administration is at last telling the truth.
