THEY LIVE: DU is like those sunglasses.... (catch it tonight!)

If you get AMC, they are showing THEY LIVE at 9:30 Eastern.

This is the one movie that all DUers must see.

DU is exactly like those sunglasses in Carpenter's eeriely prophetic movie. We know the things others refuse to even acknowledge. We SEE the monsters. And the blind fascism of BushCo is undeniably marketed to a populace cowed by the relentless mantra of their 'trifecta' of governance:

HATE, FEAR & IGNORANCE

And they are assisted by a controlled media.

There are monsters among us; Carpenter didn't know that an invasion was unnecessary--unless you count Iraq. They were already here.

Anyway, would love to hear DUer's thoughts on this film now that we're in the world according to BushCo. And, if you've never seen... DU check it out.

Some goodies from the net follow.

They influence our decisions without us knowing it. They numb our senses without us feeling it. They control our lives without us realizing it. THEY LIVE.

A rugged loner stumbles upon a terrifying discovery: goulish creatures are masquerading as humans while they lull the public into submission through subliminal advertising messages. Only specially made sunglasses make the deadly truth visible.

I don't like this one bit. Not one bit.

Total guilty pleasure. I haven't seen it in a long time, perhaps life imitates art after all.

2. Great movie
The main hero is so quiet for the first half of the movie...so that when he does start talking, it's startling.
My favorite scene is the last one. You know the one I'm talking about.

7. Not to mention a REALLY LONG fight scene...
....which they mocked perfectly in the "Cripple Fight" episode of South Park.

17. That has to be the LONGEST fight scene...
I've ever seen!

'put on these glasses'.

'No'

Fight for 12-15 minutes.

'put on these glasses'

'No'

return to fight

Jeez.....that was the brawl of the decade! Classic movie though, has some really interesting spots, even if it is a bit over the top. I have seen it 3 times, and each time, I pick out a little more of the story line.

Just wish I could take a beating like that ands just get up and start all over again.

:kick:

21. It's actually a pro wrestling skit
I read a 'making of' article once about it, and apparently much of that fight was improvised. I guess they started having fun with it, and it went on, and on, and on. Really just like a pro wrestling match (not surprising, given Piper's background), where you think it's over, then it's not, then you think it's over again, etc...

John Carpenter apparently thought it was great, and left the whole thing in.

25. I'm really glad he did...
it has to be one of the most surreal fight scenes. It just goes on forever, LOL; and without anything fancy! Just good old rough and tumble fighting.

With 20/20 hindsight though, it would have been easier on both of them, if he jusy would have put the damn galsses on!

16. I was thinking about this one not long ago
Roddy Piper and Keith David duking it out in the street, the armored attack on the homeless people, real good violent entertainment! I saw this one when it was new, back in the Poppy Bush days.

27. OK, Why is it I forgot they were aliens? Humm...mm.
It all seemed so real, very today. There is something wrong with my mind now that I see even a picture like this in view of today. I was sitting there thinking how the heck did they know just about how things would be today, every nuance of the fluff and the idiocy.
I just forgot they were aliens.
B-)

they are neo-cons. I figured that out, when the one guy came up with the cash that subliminally said, "this is your god". It is just SO obvious. LOL

Seriously, I was really feeling creepy. I don't ever remember a movie affecting me like that. It was dead on today's world.

32. It was a little creepy...
something I never noticed before. I think this is the 4th time I've seen it, over the years.

Kind of strange that a 'B' movie would have that effect. Maybe it was prophetic?
