Can we DUers buy phone cards as a means of supporting the troops
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 05:45 PM by Mountainman
This idea came to me from the thread about the high cost of calls the troops in Iraq make to their families.

If they are telling the truth and it is being shut down or even if it is for morale, maybe we could have a fund here at DU we could all contribute to and send the phone cards to the service families or something.

It could work like a pledge drive but be continuous. You pledge using your credit card or send cash and some generous DUer gets the money and buys phone cards and gives them to the service members in Iraq.

When I was in Vietnam the short wave ham operators would help us call home. We were patched via short wave to our hometown. I loved those people for doing that for us. I would have to wait until the reception was right but it did work from time to time.

I volunteer to help if someone official can contact me and help set it up and any service families out there that can help tell us what we should do to get it going?

4. better to get on the phone to your CONGRESSIONAL REP.....
find out why phone calls are not part of OUR military budget...phone calls should be costed as part of maintaining morale....

OUR soldiers are committing suicide....

let's force OUR congress to pick up the bill for soldiers phone calls to their families....it is a crime to force a soldier to pay for their last call home on their own dime....

and for those who are shocked....come to DC or SF and help us
BRING OUR TROOPS HOME NOW !!!

6. Good Idea
We would need to find out which long-distance carriers the Iraqi phone system supports though.
