suggestion: instead of saying X candidate is our "only hope" of winning…

why not say X candidate is our best hope of winning, and then explain why you feel that way.

to say one candidate is our only hope is an indirect slam at all the other candidates, and an unnecessary one at that.

1. 100% agreement with Pruner

Attacking each other is childish and counterproductive. If the economy stays sour and Iraq escalates, any of our guys can win.

2. It is also self-defeating language
as it projects the belief that there is NO WAY we can win if any of the other candidates win the primaries. Sort of like feeding the opposition - wouldn't you say?

Of course I view all of these types of threads as silly wishful magic eightball reindeer games. I wish - so I project and declare!

3. I was wrong
ya know, I thought of that exact same thing after I posted my "why I think Clark is the only hope..." post, and I kind of regretted my wording. It is true that there is a realistic chance for all of our candidates to beat Bush. I wrote that post right after I heard the boxcutter report, and my emotion was running high (imagining where Rove and co. would take their terrorism campaign). I apologize for the wording.

5. Hey, we're all subject to occasional hyperbole...

But its because we believe what we believe so strongly. But one thing totally unites (almost) all of us: we want to throw that piece of trash out of the White House.

6. no prob
I know you didn't single me out, but being that mine is the only message out there that uses the phrase "only hope" I thought it'd be a good opportunity to express my mea culpa.

Side note: This is the first time I've ever used "mea culpa" in a sentence, very exciting.
