I Am A Republican Because
Edited on Fri Oct-17-03 10:32 PM by retyred
I was at our weekly Clark meeting tonight and one of our local volunteers that attends USF in tampa brought in a pamphlet (shown below) that is being distributed on campus by the "Young Republican Organization" at USF.

After reading it and wiping the tears of laughter from my eyes, we discussed what they were supposed to do with this pamphlet, my thoughts were that when someone asked them why they were a repug, they had to bring out this screed to remind themselves just what it is they were supposed to believe and say.

My personal favorite is #4 Sound Money Management Should Be Our Goal...Wha?

On Edit: For the small print challenged, I wrote the contents below :)

#1 The proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.

#2 Good government is based upon the individual and that each person's ability, dignity, freedom, and responsibility must be honored and recognized.

#3 That free enterprise and the encouragement of individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none.

#4 Sound money management should be our goal.

#5 In equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin.

#6 We must retain those principles of the past worth retaining, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view.

#7 That Americans value and should preserve their feeling of national strength and pride, and at the same time share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom and the extension of human rights throughout the world.

#8 AND fINAL The Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.

1. Don't laugh yet.
Judy Woodward today had a bit on her Repuke lovefest about campus recruiters signing up students as Republicans. If her report is true, she said they have tripled the Democrats in recruitment. I think we should start getting organized too.

8. Wouldn't doubt that
My college had roughly 300 members of the BC College Democrats at the beginning of the year. Then we had our booth next to the Repukes on the Club Day.
We had people all day tell us they were sickened with the NRA banner AND the God Bless America flag. One person pointed out "why would God want us to take up arms that kill His children?"
It was quite a contrast; the Republicans were Polo models and had not a SINGLE minority, whereas the Democrat club has whites as a minority (only by a little, but the point is we have more diversity).
Recent Republican tactics are apalling, IMO...
Oh, and we signed up 300 additional people that day, making us over 600 members :)

2. Except for #8, those could be the Democratic party
couldn't they?

I know # 7 would have to be rephrased, but we do want peace and freedom and the extension of human rights around the world.

3. Are you sure ...
that's not the "I Am A Democrat Because" pamphlet? All 8 of those reasons are the exact opposite of Republican beliefs! I shouldn't be surprised. After all, according to our Republican pResident, "War is Peace," "Oppression is Freedom," "Occupation is Liberation," etc...etc...

5. That's rich - my comebacks
#1 The proper function of government is to do for the people those things that have to be done but cannot be done, or cannot be done as well, by individuals, and that the most effective government is government closest to the people.
>>> Except when Republicans have the power at the highest levels of the Federal Government

#2 Good government is based upon the individual and that each person's ability, dignity, freedom, and responsibility must be honored and recognized.
>>> Except when it is accepting responsibility for mistakes, lies, and foreseeable events.

#3 That free enterprise and the encouragement of individual initiative and incentive have given this nation an economic system second to none.
>>> Except when Crony Capitalism is better

#4 Sound money management should be our goal.
>>> Except when Tax Cuts are our one and only fiscal policy

#5 In equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin.
>>> Except people with lots of money have more rights than those with lesser money.

#6 We must retain those principles of the past worth retaining, yet always be receptive to new ideas with an outlook broad enough to accommodate thoughtful change and varying points of view.
>>> Sounds like a welcome mat to the former Dixiecrats. (All Republicans aren't racists, most all racists are Republicans)

#7 That Americans value and should preserve their feeling of national strength and pride, and at the same time share with people everywhere a desire for peace and freedom and the extension of human rights throughout the world.
>>> Except when enforcing those human rights would damage commerical interests

#8 AND finally The Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.
>>> Bwa Haaa Haa

6. Think of the printing costs they could have saved just by
saing, "I am a Republican because it's my daddy's money and, gol darnit, he's keeping all of it and taking some of yours to boot."

7. It is just like clean skies
The repugs "believe" in all these things, and perhaps some day they will try some.

9. Hmmm
#5 In equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, age, sex or national origin.

They conveniently left sexual orientation off that list, even though almost EVERY organization today has that appended.
