Which Repug ticket would you fear the most in 2008?
We all know that Bush/Somebody will be the ticket in 2004. But I think we also forget that whichever Democrats win in 2004 will have to run again in 2008 and face another Repug ticket.
Which ticket would you fear the most in that event?

I think if the Republicans changed the Constitution so Arnold could run that would be scary. In that event, I would fear either of the two tickets:

Arnold/Frist or Arnold/Jeb Bush.
Frist is really popular and would lock us out of the South, and Arnold California.
It would be difficult to win without California and Florida.

Without Arnold, the next best Ticket would be Frist/Talent or Frist/Coleman or Frist/Jeb Bush. But not nearly as bad as having Arnold on the top of the ticket.

Which ticket do you fear most?

Mike

1. Hagel
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 01:02 AM by Loyal
I fear a Hagel ticket. I don't know about VP. And don't worry about Arnold. Even if they did succeed in amending the Constitution, the religious right would never accept Arnold for the Republican nomination. He's pro-choice, pro-gay rights, and pro-gun control. Those are three BIG no-no's for the Repubs. He's only a Governor-elect now, so those issues don't matter to them much now. But if was President he would have a lot more influence, and Falwell et al would just NEVER allow that to happen.

4. Arnold as vice on the ticket would be scary...
No complaints from the right, because the vice has very little power except what the president gives them, but still plenty of jackasses who want a movie star in office to get the vote out.

5. Yes, I know it is not likely but some Repugs may get desperate enough
to run Arny. I think Arny could win if really tried. Repugs may be mean, and cruel, but they are NOT stupid.

8. You guys
They are NOT going to amend the Constitution just so they can run Arnold for president. I wish whoever started that rumor would cut it out. It just ain't gonna happen. As for who they may run in '08, who knows? I think whoever the group is to go for the nomination in '08 won't start making noises until after the '04 election.

6. Rudy's pro-choice and pro-gay rights,
and pro-gun control, just like Arnold. The religious right would never allow it.

9. Satan/Rumsfeld. Serious.
I'm starting to think the fundies are onto something, but Ol' Beelzebub has got them fooled. They'll be celebrating their landslide in '08 when they start to realize they elected Lucifer.
(Little Bush is the advance man, the false prophet, the one who performs for Satan the role that John The Baptist performed for Jesus Christ.)
Have I been listening to too much fundy radio?

10. my 2 cents
The ticket i fear is Jeb/patsy... but it's only scary in the context of another 4 years of Shrub. Thats why all of those people who say they wont vote for the dem if it isnt 'their' dem are, to borrow a phrase from Mrs. Ivins, stomping on their dicks.

11. Hagel/Giuliani
Scares the crap out of me. Except that I don't really *mind* Chuck Hagel, so it doesn't scare me as much - but it WOULD win.

Jeb/Giuliani would be much, much more dangerous, but would be a little harder to get elected.

16. Hagel/anything would win
He's got 56% (or so) of the vote sitting in his pocket right now and by then it'll probably be up in the 80% range. Unless we can get HR2239 passed.

13. I think Coleman would really help the Republicans
in the VP slot (I doubt he'll be running for president). He's Jewish, so he could eat into the Jewish support of the Dems (this is already a danger), and he's from a strategically significant part of the country (MN, WI, IA, and MI were all very close Gore wins in the last election).

I don't know who would be the most dangerous candidate in the top spot, but I think Jeb would be a very strong candidate if he could get by the dynasty issue. He appears to be more moderate than W to many people, but in reality he's significantly more conservative. Still, I think he has way more integrity and principle, and wouldn't be nearly as bad a president. I don't know if he plans to run, but we should be worried by his success in Florida.

17. Ridge, Frist or Elizabeth Dole all pose interesting questions.
Dole might be too old fashioned for many women, but is their best chance for a woman on the ticket. Frist would be a foil for Edwards. Ridge combines significant demographic, class, and national securty advantages.

22. The current GOP won't allow that.
Unless thousands upon thousands of right-wing Republicans leave the country, give up voting, or pass away, there is no way at all that a maverick like McCain and a moderate like Powell would make it to the top of the ticket. The power structure and party leadership doesn't work that way.

Besides, I get the impression that Powell has his reasons for not seeking the presidency. I don't know his motivations, but he was such a star for the party a few years back and decided not to get into the presidential race.

As for McCain, may he remain in good health. But I doubt the party is going to anoint him the leader. He has the wrong last name, the wrong amount of money, and the wrong issues for many of his fellow GOP members.
