Poll question: How long will God keep the Pope alive?
And when will he finally call him home?

4. One can only hope that...
the Pope and Ronnie Raygun don't head out on the same day-- can you imagine the FREEPER's take on THAT?

6. What?
I expect them to mourn Reagan more so. I dunno about you guys but I do respect the Pope and yes I do disagree with him on many social issues but as for as some things go I really agree with him and respect.

7. Me too
I was being sarcastic.

I have no idea what the Reagan thing meant, either.

8. I know
dont worry about it. I just envision freepers as Evanglical Christians for the most part, and anti Catholic. Some of the far right can be anti Catholic, thats why I get upset over Catholic bashing. I know you were being sarcastic, I know your way. I hope he gets better, hes a good man despite our disagreements.

10. Right
there are fanatics in all religions, movements, etc.

I for one, although I am no longer Catholic, don't wish the Pope dead.

Or anyone, for that matter. We could all be dead tomorrow.

16. NO, JK, what I meant was that the FREEPERS
Edited on Sat Oct-18-03 04:38 PM by hlthe2b
already are so willing to place Ronnie on a pedestal, or (like BUSH) believe him to have been "divinely sent to lead..." If the Pope and Raygun were to die on the same day, that would only allow them to associate the two, regardless of the latent anti-Catholic attitudes that most RW fundies share.

As for the Pope, I believe in looking at the entire person and I do find much good in him and what he has accomplished, despite my overwhelming disappointment for his misogynistic attitudes toward women in the church and his lack of support/tolerance for gays. He turned his back on so many opportunities to turn the church toward the future. The birth control issue is a big one for me. At least he is consistent with his support for a ban on BOTH abortion and capital punishment, unlike the RW anti-abortion crowd. Despite my issues with him, I think he is a good, but (like all of us) flawed man. I wish him long life and hope that he passes on only when his health problems prevent his having the kind of quality of life we all deserve.

13. You know what they should do.
Put him in an old folks home with Mohammed Ali and Ronald Reagan and let them have a battle to the death.

14. What is the
purpose of this poll? It sounds like something the Repukes would bet on. Put it on the stock market and take bids. Highly insulting.

15. I don't respect the pope at all
but I hope he lives as long as he enjoys living. If he wants to live longer than that....I guess that is up to him. I just wish he believed in affording me that same dignity.

19. Anyone read Silverberg's Majipoor series?
That fictional society's religious/bureaucrat leader Pontifex could be kept alive for far longer than normally possible. They put him in a bubble, filled it with liquids, and put tubes in his orifices.

Apparently, that's the regimen they have JPII on...

20. I hope the Pope is around for another 25 years
I am not going to put myself in God's shoes. The Pope helped so much. I luv him, and as long as he is still around we know that a more conservative Pope cannot take his place.

The quetion should be, "Who is waiting in the wings to take over that is so bad as to make the current Pope suffer for so long?"

Mike
