Should I bother calling my Repug Senator and Congressman?

Usually I only call my DINO Senator Baucus when I'm passionate about a vote. I did call the Republicans this week as well about the $87 billion.

Should I bother? As it is, Baucus votes on the wrong side of almost every issue anyway, but Rehberg and Burns are so evil I can't really imagine the calls they get from folks like me mean anything.

Baucus is a DINO like Schumer and Clinton are DINOS. They pretty much vote the same way on every issue, but I guess that makes 75% of the Democrats in Congress, DINOs, according to you. The problem with this is that your political compass is tilted very, very, far left. So anybody to the right of Barbara Lee would seem like a DINO to you. :puke:

3. It might be some value in an issue

6. My experience with Congressman (R)

I usually contact him by e-mail, and I always get a reply by mail. It's always canned, but at least I know I'm getting trough. Does it make a difference? Maybe -- barely.

His form letter about the $87B said that there were good reasons to look at how the money was going to be spent and whether or not a portion should be a loan. He voted for it anyway.

However, he as recently started crticizing Bush on trade. I like to think that he is at least getting a sense that Bush is not infallable.

Then they respond. Like you can complain about the war, but only because you might have to pay more taxes. Then they will comfort you and tell you don't worry, this won't cost much.

know what we are thinking-- ESPECIALLY the ones on the other side.

since nearly every elected official in this state is a rep-- I take great joy in reminding them regularly that they are, in fact, public SERVANTS, not masters (at least until until all the voting machines are rigged)

besides, I figure it irritates the bejeebers out of them, which is reason enough in and of itself to keep contacting them

I had awful experience trying to get to a particular aide in Gephart office.
Run around big time. Left hand had no idea on right.

Finally, I called several hours later and told the lady I was a big contributor to Gephart and if I did not get results my money was going to Newt. In thirty minutes the aide called me.

When you feel strongly about something, contact your representative/senator or other elected official. If they are a Rep don't open your letter with an attack on them and a bunch of name calling. It will only further marginalize you. State your position and the reasoning for your position. Be brief, to the point, and respectful in manner. Remember they are human beings with emotions too. Don't use form letters, write your own. If they get 10,000 of the same letter they tend to discount it somewhat. An individual letter usually means that you took the time to think your position out, and that you are therefore more committed. A form letter means that you only took the time to sign the form, therefore less commitment.
