The Tennesean covers Moseley Braun's address to the convention of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

Speaking in Nashville to death penalty opponents, presidential candidate Carol Moseley Braun predicted that in 20 years the death penalty will be abolished.

The pronouncement drew applause from participants at the nationwide meeting of the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.

Moseley Braun said she has seen first-hand the arc of change that occurred in Illinois, her home state, over the course of 20 years.

As a young state House representative in 1982, she filed a bill in Illinois for a moratorium on the death penalty, which made her the target of death threats, she said.

and this barbaric practice is abolished once and for all.
