DeLay almost gave up the game.
NYT

Deep in the Heart of Washington

THE House majority leader, Tom DeLay, apparently received something of a hero's welcome at the White House last week, when he returned to Washington after brokering a redistricting plan that could net Republicans as many as seven more House seats in his home state, Texas.

On Monday, fresh from his redistricting triumph, Mr. DeLay went to the White House with other Republican leaders in Congress to talk with President Bush about legislative matters. A reporter asked if, perchance, the president had commented on politics in the Lone Star State.

"Oh, he just congratulated ——" Mr. DeLay began. He paused, grinned slightly and finished his sentence with a single word: "Texas."

Now what do you suppose he almost said?

4. WHOA!
Too bad he caught himself in time! Of course, if he had gone ahead and finished the sentence the way he'd originally intended, the "liberal" media would have been right on it, right? RIGHT?

7. What is this "redistricting" thing all about?
I've been hearing about this a lot lately....We don't have such a thing here, so far as I know, so it's new to me....It certainly doesn't sound very democratic if the party in power can just rearrange things, at will, to give themselves more seats...Isn't there some other state planning on doing the same thing?....How can this be allowed?
