I'm amazed to see Byrd with a solid plurality of the votes of this poll. True, he has been a strong voice against Bush, but I think most people here are ignoring his whole record.

For that matter, Kennedy and Feingold have been very vocal against Bush too... and they both have wonderful records.

........and can be forgiven for past transgressions just as others can be when for voting for their constituency instead of some ideological strawman. I don't see that the question addresses overall record. It simply asks who one's favorite senator is. Right now Byrd is at the top of my short list which includes Feingold, Kennedy, Kerry and Chafee. He certainly has told the oppostion whatfor recently. Goodness knows I am appalled at my own congresspeople so I have to cheer for those from other states.

My senator. She has never capitulated to the right and she never voted for the Iraq War resolution. Now there is a campaign by the right wing gestapo in California to get her senate seat in the next election. An article in today's LA Times, states that the GOP are so confident with Arnold's "win" that they have their sights set on Senator Boxer's seat next. Woe is us.
