This demo shows why Touch-screen voting is a recipe for disaster..

Who the hell are they kidding? Try the "demo".

Now here's the TIA voting machine (a piece of paper, desk and a pen). Do you think maybe I can patent the technology?
...............................
Check off your choice:
Gore __
Bush __
...............................
Now place it in the box.

Have a nice day.

2. As long as there is a paper trail, touch screen voting is fine
I consider it an improvement, but there must be a paper trail for evry ballot cast. Each ballot should generate a printout (and the voter should be allowed to inspect it when he/she is done voting) that would go into a pile in the even a recount was necessary.

9. paper trail is NOT ok.
The paper ballots need to be counted, not tallied from computer results. Use a touch screen machine to allow ease for the voter to make accurate choices, print out their ballot, let them verify and inspect and then place it in the ballot box to be counted.

Relying on computer tabulated results could very well be inaccurate and the results not close enough to warrant a recount, and even if it did go for a recount what guarantee that someone won't mistakenly "misplace" a ton of ballots? There is none.

Count the paper the first time.

3. Wow, that really brings it home in stark reality, in a virtual way!
You have no idea what may have really happened to the vote, but have a nice day!

(Being Canadian, I am more and more grateful for the horse and buggy way of "pass me the HB pencil and let me mark my X)

4. Yeah, but..., but..., but...,
With pencil and paper you have to wait for the votes to be counted before you know who the winner is. With the touch screens the winner can be determined before the election. That really speeds things up.

Thanks for the laugh, though. That was a good one. Mind if I use it.

7. As a bookkeeper I never expected computers to take the
place of an actual entry after deciding what type of animal a transaction was. What I was grateful for was not having to manually run rolls of calculator tapes verifying the results or manually print the entries onto a journal, and then transfer the totals to a ledger.

Computer voting should do the same, and yes you have the original numbered sheet of each individual's vote choices for verification.
