Somethin's happening here; what it is ain't exactly clear
We don't need no stinkin' voting machines. They manually counted 11 million ballots in Canada in less than a few hours.

I have programmed mainframes, minis and pcs for thirty years. Election officials are bribed, threatened and lie about certification. They know nothing about the myriad pitfalls. They are naive and ignorant about technology. They have never written a program. They have no clue. They make me sick.

Computers are supposed to simplify our lives, not complicate them. Touch screen computers are a boondoggle, provide no security and are a clear and present danger to democracy. Period.

Let three people in one precinct spend one day every four years counting the votes. I'd rather wait a day for numbers I can believe in, rather than instantaneous fraud.

1. I agree, let's go back to hand counting paper ballots.

From 1968-2002, we had always voted with paper ballots (have lived in small rural precincts all these years) and it's no hardship.

2. I agree
But if they insist on computerized voting, make it OPEN SOURCE!

3. It is Just Too Easy for Them To Steal Elections Now
and with no chance of getting caught, the temptation will not be resisted for long (if at all).

To make matters worse, it all runs on Windows.
Think what happens if a virus gets loose on Election Day.

All election hardware and software must be open source
and run on an O/S that is also open source.
Nothing else can be made trustworthy!

5. A virus may be the only way to stop the electronic vote fraud
Hmmmmm...

4. you and what army
will stop the GOP vote fraud machine?

they need not only the bogus machines, but the instantaneous "results," because the Murkan public has the attention span of a gnat.

7. How dare you impugn on gnats
All of the gnats I ever met fully understood the principle of self preservation and at least the part of living the day out.

6. Okay, so who wants to start a campaign
to go back to simple manually hand checked votes, counted by hand? If enough people are serious about this, a grass roots movement could be started to make demands on our elected representatives. I would also go a step further and demand that there be election observers from other countries like maybe Canada in each precinct or at least each county to make sure all the votes are counted and all the ballots are logged numerically.

Each one of us could start with letters to our state and federal officials right on up to Mr. Bush himself.
