Chicago Sun Times publishes Prescott Bush Nazi ties story

President Bush's grandfather was a director of a bank seized by the federal government because of its ties to a German industrialist who helped bankroll Adolf Hitler's rise to power, government documents show.

Prescott Bush was one of seven directors of Union Banking Corp., a New York investment bank owned by a bank controlled by the Thyssen family, according to recently declassified National Archives documents reviewed by the Associated Press.

Fritz Thyssen was an early financial supporter of Hitler, and Thyssen thought Hitler's Nazi party was preferable to communism. The documents do not show any evidence that Bush directly aided that effort. His position with Union Banking never was a political issue for Bush, who was elected to the Senate from Connecticut in 1952.

Reports of Bush's involvement with the seized bank have been circulating on the Internet for years and have been reported by some mainstream media. The newly declassified documents provide additional details about the Union Banking-Thyssen connection.

in no way a suporter of Bush, but I dont hold a man responsible for the actions of his grandfather, we have plenty of other things to blast him with.

Just my opinion... when Prescott Bush was stripped of his money by Congress for trading with the enemy, the Bush family was so stung and humiliated that they have, for generations since, considered it their mission to marshall and direct power. And not merely their mission, but also, in a sense, their destiny. Rationale? Pick one. To protect themselves from the power structure by assuming control of it, to vindicate themselves from the judgment of history, to cash in, to fulfill their destiny. Yes, comparisons could be made to the Kennedy family. It seems to me, though, that the Kennedys function more from a sense of noblesse oblige, whereas the Bushes imagine themselves more or less chosen for power. It's worthwhile noting that the Nazis, too, had a profound belief in destiny as an active force.
Anyway, if Prescott hadn't been so rudely treated by Congress for helping out Henry Ford's buddy Hitler, we wouldn't have Dubya in the White House today. Just my armchair theorizing.

8. Actually, Prescott got off with nary a slap on the wrist

The Farish family were the ones who took the brunt - the father and son. The father had been President & CEO of Standard Oil and he also managed a cartel between Standard Oil and I.G. Farben. Apparently, he had given the Nazis the company patent for artificial rubber, and hid it from the U.S. govt. This as well as other patents (which came out later in Senate investigation).

The govt went after Farish hard and he died of a heart attack during this time. His son died in an "accident" soon after his father died. All the wealth went to the grandson who became the BushCo money manager.

The bush bank seizure didn't get much publicity. Prescott went on to run for Senate seat in Conn.

The Farish & Bush family alliances go way back.
