1. Good article
might be better than the 2 state solution. Of course, it'd never be implemented correctly.

2. Isn't that the bin Laden solution - One Islamic State for the world?
Trust the idea of freedom of religion in an Islamic State. And the equal honor given people of the book - the Jew, the Christian, the Islamist.

I kind of like the idea of a wall until I see any majority Islam population NOT force their version of Islam's laws/rules/customs on the rest of the population. Visit Istanbul sometime and try to find a Christian Church in this kindly Islamic country (actually I like Turkey and the folks there - but the Church of St Sophia - the main church after the Vatican - is a museum after a few hundred years as a Mosque, while the churches that remain in town have been built around so you can not see them from any main road - hidden by other buildings so well that the average resident could not tell you where a Christain church is located)

3. It could work
but there are too many terrorist groups that want to take down Isreal. They would just infiltrate Israel and blow it up from the inside out.

5. Miscomprehension?
"Isn't that the bin Laden solution - One Islamic State for the world?"

Did you even read the Nation article?

6. It would be a secular state.
Islam actually has a history of tolerance that is better than Christians.

9. Iraq has Christian churches.
And in fact the Christian community has fared coparably well there, and only now is deeply concerned that because the US/UK unleashed the fundamentalist storm, they are in danger.

Your generalization is too broad. Again, the key is secularism. In Syria too (the only Arab country that does not mention Islam in its constitution), Christians fare comparably with Muslims.

4. TNR carries full page ads
that try to convince them that Israel absolutely needs the West Bank and Gaza for national security.

I suspect there will be no solution to things in that region within my lifetime.

7. Not in your lifetime?
wow. How pessimistic.

Truth is, if the violence continues there - it continues for us here in the states. It may not be a problem we WANT to deal with, but it is one we have to, if we actually want to "win" the "War on Terrorism."

8. One-state secular state is my personal preference.
But, then again, I am not Israeli or Palestinian, and I believe that is a matter for self-determination by these peoples. I believe that secular, non-racial states in which each citizen has perfectly equal rights and obligations is the best choice--small "r" republicanism. Of course, this would entail that Jews would eventually become a minority within this state. That is the sticking point for many who are afraid of losing their rights as Jews. The existence of a strong secular, democratic state would hopefully preclude this possibility.
