A little campaign update from AWD
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 11:29 AM by AWD
I haven't posted an update in about a week, but have been running my head off for this campaign lately.....here's an update!

We're holding off on full-blown campaigning until after the first Tuesday in November. There is a mayoral election in the main city of my district, and we are throwing our support to them Dem candidate in that race...we refuse to take any of his press away, as he needs it badly. The Thursday after that election day, we come out HARD!

(incidentally, the webpage is fully built, but not displayed, for those of you who are checking up)

The big news.....I just got official support from big names in the local Green Party AND the local Libertarian Party. No word yet on whether they'll run people in the election, but I now have Greens and Libertarians working on my volunteer staff....and promise to spread the word amongst their local groups! This county had 6% of the vote go to Greens and Libertarians in the 2000 election, and 3.5% of the vote in 2002...those numbers, if they swing my way, could be a deciding factor!

The DCCC has offered matching funds up to 10 grand (so have two other groups), and have offered volunteers as well. The Ohio Dem party has hired a targeter for me (and a consultant...same person). I've joined with the candidate from Ohio's 7th District and she and I are working together on a few plans. Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur is providing behind-the-scenes support for now, and will be endorsing us soon.

I've just moved into my new apartment (complete with office space for the campaign), and have gone to cell phones so I'm constantly in touch. We're still putting together the apartment and office, but should be fully functional by the end of the day tomorrow.

I've 'hired' volunteers in all four counties of my district, and they begin their work in 3 weeks.

I have two meetings with Dem officials next week, and am looking for more speaking gigs immediately.

I have tickets to see Michael Moore (most of my volunteer staff is attending with me) on the 29th, and hopefully will get some time with him that day. I did a little activism with him in the past, so I'm confident we'll hook up that day.

One last thing - if ANY of you sent me a physical check for the campaign, please drop me a line. I have a list, but I am making sure it's a complete list. I want to have complete reports kept secure (and I want to line up a 'thank you' list to send out cards just before primaries).

(speaking of primaries...no competition yet)

Also, if you want to send donations, please do so. I take PayPal, or you can send it to me personally. The new address is on the (old and incomplete) webpage at www.jeffseemannforcongress.com

Thanks!

1. Missing an opportunity.
Why aren't you guys handing out leaflets at some key precincts on this election day coming that you have mentioned? This would be a good time to start signing up volunteers and just generally increasing name recognition.

All you need are a few volunteers, some fliers, and a clipboard with signup sheet for each location.

2. Illegal
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 11:36 AM by AWD
It's illegal to campaign within 50 yards of a precinct in Ohio. I asked about that one already. (i think it's 50 yards, it might be more)

Great idea, though! Thanks!

3. Right, all states have laws like that.
You just have to sit outside the legal lines to do it. In Texas it's 100 feet.

Sounds like things are going great! As one of the first (the first?) do I get an invite to your victory party when it happens?

7. Awesome.
Sounds like you're about ready to kick some ass, then.

Best of luck to you, and the mayoral candidate you're backing.

9. Yes, but....
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 12:24 PM by AWD
...the usual Libertarian candidate was an officer of the peace coalition I founded, and several Greens showed up every week at the rallies and got to know my politics through that.

The support from those two parties was forged through the peace movement. It's being solidified through urgency to knock off a Repub in the House.

on edit - I forgot to mention that i was impressed that you knew my opponent proposed that resolution. I got a press release from Stephanie Tubbs-Jones recently on it.

10. We talked about HR 2660 a few weeks back
I suggested that maybe it should be a central issue in your campaign with a twist. The twist is suggesting that Regula is not responsive to his constituents, isn't trustworthy and has to be watched all the time.

15. NP
The pocketbook issue is the biggest wedge issue available against Regula right now:D
Hell, the people that voted for him will be angry:evilgrin:

18. You are correct!
The one thing that affects more swing voters is their own wallet...if it's empty, I can get their vote.

I just need to hammer that point home...thanks for the reminder!

16. Great news
This is an indication of things to come. I think the Greens and Libertarians will go all out to defeat Bush in 2004 and that a great many of them will support the eventual dem nominee.

Sounds like you have really a good organization coming together. I'm one of the people who honestly think that a political realignment can take place in 2004 and that Dems can recapture the House, and if that happens then many seats which are thought of to be leaning GOP will swing towards the Dems and I think yours could be one of them.

Keep up the great work. Where can we send you a campaign contribution?
