CNN: Democrats don't support the troops
Was watching CNN earlier and there was a conversation between two CNN "journalists" regarding the 87 billion votes in the Senate/House. It went something like this:

CNN 1: So how are Democrats who didn't support the president (i.e. voted against the 87 billion) going to be punished? And the same for Republicans that didn't?
CNN 2: Well Republicans are going to do something you can be sure of that. By the way several prominant democrats such as Polosi and presidential candidates such as Kerry voted nay as well. (at this time the bottom screen text changed to reflect this information) In fact most democrats in the house voted against this. This vote was to support the troops. Democrats that voted against this don't support the troops.
CNN 1: Well that's interesting. Moving on to...

So there two people are providing commentary regarding democrats "not supporting the troops" - making VERY sure to call out Pelosi and Kerry. (as well as another Dem candidate who's name I don't recall)

I haven't watched CNN for a while. Has it typically gotten this bad? Usually they at least have a Lieberman style democrat trying to run shabby defense.

Pretty patehtic.

25. If this exchange occurred on Crossfire, then it's "editorial content"
To be sure, CNN has been known to "editorialize" within its newscasts, but I would think the CNN "journalists" would know better than to make this kind of direct attack. I could see this statement naturally arising within an interview of some rightwing dipshit opinionator, but not as part of a report.

CNN has been getting very thick on opinion and very thin on analysis over the last few years. 'Course, that's just my opinion.

32. It did NOT occur on cross fire
It was 2 CNN correspondents talking. One of them was in a CNN studio and the other was "live from DC".

34. Then it's slander, pure and simple
That kind of behavior in a newscast is actionable.

3. It's a typical red herring!
The media whores must find a way to deflect public attention of the GIs getting killed every day, AND blame the Dems for it. This won't work, if the troops are still in Iraq a year from now, with the same results.

4. As more atrocities slip into the media despite the regime's best efforts

We can expect a lot more of that, and we can expect it to intensify.

As soon as the operation to end UN Food Distribution is complete, expect a huge "support the troops" offensive from the regime, to coincide with mop-up operations to stamp out "terrorist groups" who will inevitably attempt to smuggle contraband water and food to Iraqi civilians, just as is done in Palestine.

9. What the heck does "Support" mean anyway?
I'm a Desert Storm veteran and when I got back I saw all these signs about "Supporting the Troops" and never quite figured out what that meant.

Did it mean using less oil/gas to reduce out dependence on ME Oil?
Did it mean paying a war tax so the war is properly funded?
Did it mean properly funding the VA?

Words are cheap little buggers.

see also how they failed to mention bushie James Baker as the lawyer for the SAUDIs being sued by 9/11 victims.

virtually NO integrity left there at all.

watch the national evening broadcasts for anything resembling journalism.

Praising the hell out of Arnold Schwarzegger and Dennis Miller. He said, "I would never be a Hollywood liberal."

Well, I will never waste a dime of my money on any one of his films again either.

12. CNN is in the tank for Bush and has been for years.
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 05:44 PM by blm
They always paint coverage of Kerry with that undertone of unpatriotism, because Bush/Rove fear the fight that a head to head with Kerry will portend for them. They want him knocked out in the primaries.

The other candidate they targeted in the piece was John Edwards.

14. E-mail or call CNN
Every time you see something unprofessional, inappropriate or slanted, give them an earful (politely, of course). I do it every so often. Explain as clearly as you can who the anchor or guest was, what was being said, and when the show aired, plus on which CNN station.

Good luck!

The email is never acknowledged and I would have to email all day long to cover every offensive and incorrect thing said. But thanks for the suggestion anyway. :-)

16. CNN in my opinion
has gotten really bad. The lone holdouts are Cross Fire (James Carvell) and sometimes Wolf Blitzer. Lou Dobbs has been asking questionsabout outsourcing lately also.

20. Lou Dobbs
has been on my "blacklist" ever since the day I heard him read an email from a viewer who was complaining about him being so OBVIOUSLY biased toward the war AND Bush. You know what he said? "Oh well, too bad if you don't like it. I'm a citizen and I'm entitled to my opinion and I happen to like what our President is doing and I support the war. If you don't like it, too bad." My jaw just DROPPED! I was shocked and haven't watched him since.

...pointed at them with their words going out to millions of other citizens.

- Is this journalism or just infotainment? If they're journalists their OPINION shouldn't matter.

35. How Republicans (don't) support the troops.
Edited on Mon Oct-20-03 07:53 PM by w4rma

The House also narrowly defeated an amendment by Rep. David R. Obey (D-Wis.) that would have shifted $3.6 billion from the Iraq reconstruction fund to the U.S. military to pay for the medical and dental screening of military reservists, for family assistance centers, for pre-paid phone cards for the troops in Iraq, for the transportation of troops on rest-and-relaxation leave, for the construction of more water treatment and power plants for the deployed troops, and for the repair and replacement of damaged equipment. The amendment died, 216 to 209.
