Excerpt:
Plans for the Queen and George W Bush to make a triumphant procession along the Mall during
the president's state visit next month have been abandoned because of fears of anti-war protests.

The decision, taken by Downing Street after consultations with Buckingham Palace, the White House
and Scotland Yard, has disappointed the president and his senior aides.

The procession is traditionally the public high point of a state visit. A senior Palace official said that
detailed plans had been made. "But Downing Street, anxious about possible anti-war protests from
the start, has now decided to pull the plug on it," said the official.

...or maybe the Brit's are just ashamed to pose with a mass murderer?

more excerpts -

President Bush's trip is the first full state visit of an American president since the Queen came to the throne 52 years ago. He will travel by helicopter to avoid protesters who line road routes. Other proposed events have also been curtailed or cancelled, and he will not address Parliament because of fears of a boycott by MPs.

With anti-war campaigners, including militant Muslims, determined to make a protest during the visit, Downing Street has decided to stage photo events that they can control. The President and the Queen are expected to be photographed together during tea at Buckingham Palace and inspecting the guard.

The state visit by President Jiang Zemin of China in 1999 was marred when a guardsman with a rifle and fixed bayonet was seen pursuing a protester along the Mall.

2. That George -- a uniter, not a divider!
I can't remember a U.S. leader in recent history who had such a consistent reaction! For every 10 that absolutely loved Clinton or Reagan there were a number that loathed him. For every 10 that love President Stupidhead, there are about 6 billion who think the planet would be much better off without his presence.

3. "he has to dodge and weave"
to avoid the public at all costs. He can't arrive by car, so he needs to take a helicopter to fly above the roiling crowds.

When is this going to sink in? I recall too, before the war in Iraq, it was pretty much accepted that the man was confined to the White House. There was nowhere he could go, without igniting huge protests and demonstrations.

That's the reason they had to pick tiny Granada to hatch their war plans. There was no country willing to take him.

4. I knew that was going to happen - they would have had MASSIVE
protests and it would have just led to more bad feelings and lower poll numbers for Blair.
