1. LOL, Wolfie is awaiting his talking points from the WH so he is
filling time until they arrive at which time he will defend the bush vociferously.

2. Ridiculous, isn't it. Like there's nothing more important
to talk about. If I didn't know any better, I'd think they are just too lazy and use the easy way out.
Oh, wait...

4. They must be terribly disappointed ...
... that the plane didn't circle the airport for an hour or so, due to faulty landing-gear. That's CNN's all-time favourite!

"And we don't know anything else about it." Should be CNN's new slogan -- God knows they aren't ANYBODY's idea of 'trusted news'.

5. First the Aruban girl, now this plane crash. EVERY time there is news
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 04:52 PM by Wordie
that is really bad for Bush, it seems like there is one of these kinds of stories that completely drowns out the discussion. It's been on MSNBC for what must be at least an hour now.

Don't get me wrong, although I wear my tinfoil hat with pride (having been proven right on so many occasions now), I'm not saying this was in any way the fault of Bush, but it is amazing how these things always seem to come up to overwhelm the news that's bad for Bush. It's annoying.

(Even if it weren't for the Bush angle I don't like the way these sorts of stories come to dominate the news.)

8. a question
If there were reports that a helipcopter crashed in Iraq today, killing 16 troops, and the media went into full coverage mode (Crash! Search! Rescue and Recovery!) instead of showing repeats of chimpy's press conference and the reaction to it from various Democrats and repubs, would they be subject to the same criticism? News happens.

11. As long as there's something to report, I have no problem.
Did you see the first half-hour of the Situation Room? I thought my initial post summed it up precisely.

That's NOT worth a half-hour of broadcast time.

15. There's also the issue of how much national import the story has, imo.nt

14. MSNBC still has its *uninterrupted* coverage going on. STILL.
Edited on Mon Dec-19-05 06:00 PM by Wordie
Nothing else is being covered. I agree that "news happens" but there is news happening all over, every day, INCLUDING the press conferences and Dem and Repub reactions. This crash must be terribly important to the relatives of the victims, but - what is it now, 3 hours? (it feels like 3 hours at any rate) - uninterrupted coverage??? By a NATIONAL news outlet???

12. True, but remember....
Bush's long-awaited Super Duper, All-Dancing, All-Singing Iraqi Election Show got wiped off the tube by the illegal spying story. That's probably worse for him than this silly plane crash intermission is for us.

I wish there were one news channel that had a policy of not covering exactly the same semi-story being simultaneously flogged on a half-dozen other channels. Right, that's likely.

16. OK...you've got a point there. Isn't there supposed to be a new tv channel
coming up soon? I too, long for a channel that would deal only with substantive issues.

6. I hate it when this happens. They will do this for hours when they
have no real news about the crash to report but they have video footage so they will just show it endlessly. Irritating as hell.

9. I turned on the TV to get the latest on the spying.
But instead, every channel was/is carrying continuous coverage of a small plane crash, despite there being about two sentence's worth of news known so far. Important to those involved, but not on the level of treason by the president! Hopefully KO will not be pre-empted for a 2-hour special on this plane crash.

10. Then he should turn his fancypants equipment on to NPR because they
mentioned (I think--I was leaving the office at the time so I might have misunderstood) that it was in Miami and someone (if not more) had died.

18. I'm sure you can find a source to confirm.
I hear it's being mentioned now and again on one or two of the news channels.
