A Most Clever Trick Regarding The Deficit....
The bad news came out a couple of days ago. The deficit was going to be the highest in history. This is terrible news for our country and our economy. This broke the record of Bush Sr set back in 1992. But, with this crowd in the White House, there is sunshine behind every cloud.

Today they say this is "good news". Good news! Because they had forecast a deficit back in July of almost $100 billion more than the "official" deficit of a couple of days ago. This proves their economic plan and their taxcuts are working. Well, kiss my ass on the county square!

This is a perfect example of how this Administration is willing to distort and lie to promote their own political agenda. Who are you going to believe? This White House or your own lying eyes? How can we believe their "good news" coming out of Iraq when they are willing to shovel this type of bullshit out to the public?

1. What is the true impact of the deficit.....
When you talk to people about the deficit and what is the real impact....I've had more luck with this than anything....and in fact it is the naked truth.

Forget about the yearly deficit....
Concentrate on the total debt.

Right now (as of last year) the interest you pay out of every tax dollar on the total debt was 15 cents on the dollar.

Imagine you pay 10,000 a year in taxes...that's $1500 you paid on the interest on the debt. So let's say you got a $300 rebate....who cares...

Now that the total debt is going to 8 trillion and beyond....there are forecasts that the cut out of your tax dollar will climb to 18 cents....perhaps very soon even to 20 cents on every tax dollar.

Now.....

Add that up year after year and ask yourself the basic question.....what could I have done with the investment of $2000 or more per year....year after year for the rest of my life?

2. Up Until This Week
Every single budget projection that I can remember has had to be revised downwards.

OK, so this one came in better. I would be tempted to put this down to economic fluctuations. But the way that the administration immediately jumped all over it suggests that they have deliberately used the "big bath" strategy to make themselves look good. I remember that trick from "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying."

I do numbers for a living. Clinton's projections were all realistic and conservative, and the actuals met or exceeded expectations. Bush's numbers are bullshit. If he were CFO of a company, he would absolutely no credibility left.

5. And when it rains, it pours
Add in the unfunded obligations for Social Security and Medicare and we're about twice where we are now...

7. This is a trick well known and well used by government
Always put out worst case scenerio so the people will be happy with what finally ends up to be the case. Kind of like Bush* and his lower expectations thingy. You expect the worst so if he barely passes you feel like he scored an A. These bastards are exceptionally good at their deceptions.

9. Oh god, do I hate accounting tricks...
Things like this are what make people hate politics. The casual spinning, distortion, lying, and utter disregard for the truth shown by statements like these frustrate me to no end. Is it too much to ask that politicians have integrity?
