If Dean Gets the nomination he will need to calm the DLC
Please don't flame me for this, but I think that if Dean gets the nomination, he will need to make peace with the DLC, but in turn the DLC also needs to start speaking favorably of him. I'm saying this because if the DLC and other "Centrists" buy into the birkenstock charicature of Dean, than it may hurt our turnout with swing voters and those who are misinformed with Faux reports, despite the antipathy towards Bush*. Dean doesn't have to appease the DLC, but he and his supporters should start toning down the rhetoric, or we may have a lower voter turnout, or new, though VERY misguided Reagan Democrats (thanks a lot Faux).

If we have party unity than both Dean and the DLC can put their resources into defeating *.

1. I'm not sure if there is any hope for the DLC
At every turn, they seem to try and sabotage viable candidates and prop up PNAC puppets, like LIEberman. I could be wrong, but it looks to me as though they've been bought off.

Where is the outrage?

2. The DLC will have to get it right,
that's it. The DLC has been getting it wrong all along. If they would at least recognize Dean for what he is, rather than making these absurd allegations about him, there would be no schizm between them. The DLC continues to defy the people, and that won't stand.

We're not making war with the DLC. We're just making them irrelevant. I'm willing to bet that more people check the DFA website (and every other candidate's site, for that matter) regularly than check the DLC website.

3. The DLC is dead.
True, Dean was(emphasis added) a DLC'er, and used the DLC policies to successfully govern Vermont. Today's DLC is so right-wing leaning, then Dean really needs to corral it back to its centrist position. Dean is a centrist, and I have *no* problems with him as a socialist.

6. Correction:The DLC is DYING
Edited on Tue Oct-21-03 05:39 PM by mot78
While I'm not a DLCer, unfortunately they still play a role in Democratic power-broking. They also control infarstructure needed to get out the vote. Granted the DLC needs to stop yelling at Dean, but Dean also needs to be able to unify people who are misinformed about his ideological label.

4. Dean is the DLC
just as much as any of the candidates he and his cadre try to paint the aweful, evil, washington candidates as.

The DLC isn't an autocratic power-broker, it's a think tank

5. That is incorrect
Dean is not the DLC, nor is he a member.
