Congressmen visiting Iraq not getting true picture...
Just as in Viet Nam, there are areas that are relatively safe to visit. However, I doubt many of them are visiting central Baghdad or the Sunni Triangle area. Then they return with glowing comments about the progress and the stability of the country. They are being used and many are not aware of it, it seems to me.

When there are 25-40 attacks a day in the country, it is far from "stabilized". The visiting dignitaries were almost surprised by the bombing of the UN building. It was considered one of the safer areas at one time. But no more.

They are doing a disservice to this country by reporting back with all the "good news" and not taking into account the dangerous situation that many of the GIs are facing in numerous towns and villages of Iraq. The people need realistic "news" from their leaders that visit Iraq. They don't need whitewash and mush from their congressmen.

1. Hey Kentuck, that is right on! They are visiting the fairly stable areas
but not the "Sunni" triangle area which contains 60% of the Iraqi population.
BTW, I loved your "Is Bush* a Bullshitter" thread

2. Wasn't there a delegation of Democratic senators who wanted
to go to Iraq recently? I think Dodd was one of them. The Pentagon denied them the trip. Something about not having a plane to get them from Jordan.

4. One good thing I read. They have to fly service so fly out with the bodies
And they still are in bags. Bet that opens the eyes.
