I'm sure this has been commented on here, and it's a sensitive subject, but does anyone agree that Jeb is being the ultimate whore for over riding the judge in the Schiavo case?

I am truely disgusted by the way Jeb Bush handled the whole situation. It is not for him to stick his nose where it doesn't belong. Terry is not his to make that kind of decision for.......

to take *'s place down the line. Years ago, I recall reading that * was the elder son but Poppy was grooming Jebbie to be a future president since he was brighter and more inclined to intellectual pursuits. I don't know what happened to their original plan, but * dumb lucked his way into power first. It would behoove the Democratic Party to be vigiliant of this nasty little snake in the grass. Don't count on the American people to learn an abiding lesson from yet another disasterous foray into the Bushes. Poppy wasn't enough so they went for a large helping of Junior--who knows, Jebbie may just be dessert. God help this nation if it comes to that.

7. You thing I'm kidding, but...

Although I know polls, especially this early, are not always accurate, they show bush's support as about the same as in 2000, some even higher than that (that means a few million americans, who were a little stand offish about Bush in 2000 believe he has really pulled through and proved himself since then). At this rate even if footage of Bush and Cheney eating live babies with a knife and fork was released, it would still be a toss up as to who would be elected the most powerful party in the world.

Even if history is proof that you can not win over terror like this, people will go with it.After all force has been used for 1000's of years and even if it does not do what you aim it to, it is still used. Easy, where as reason is harder. I would not be shocked if Bush wins as it is being set up and bought as of now.This may be the point we look at in history as when we loose the govt. we liked so, but only one half were willing to get out and vote for.You get what you vote in and half the people that vote want this type of gov even if they end up in a place like Cuba.Odd but what can you do. The whole world thinks we have lost our greatness and I guess they are right.

jeb has more presidential appeal than the Shrubbery in Chief does. In fact most of us were surprised, Jeb looked like the future presidential candidate. However, in 2000 he wasn't ready for a run. Georgie was. Now we have to discredit these clowns so thoroughly that Jeb never gets a chance.

Bushes waste no time reflecting on anything. Even if one agrees that what Jeb did is right, there is little doubt that his only thought in doing it was votes. He signed the bill, for which he expects to be paid in votes.

who passed this "one time only" law in complete violation of the right to die law that they had crafted and passed some years ago.

This is the ultimate in pandering and whoring for the religious right.

The emergency law that was rushed through the Legislature Monday and Tuesday gave Gov. Jeb Bush and Speaker Johnnie Byrd what they wanted all along. It allowed the governor to order the reinsertion of a feeding tube, contrary to the finding of every single state and federal court that ruled on the case. Given that the new law confers upon Bush powers that to date have been vested in the courts, it may not survive judicial challenge. But that's now in the hands of yet more lawyers and more judges. What makes this particular act of the Legislature so repugnant is the immoral politics that gave rise to it.

Note that neither the House nor the Senate, prior to their action, pored through the thousands of pages of medical and legal testimony that confronted Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge George Greer over the past five years. They were content instead to count the e-mails for and against, and defer to the consciences of their governor and speaker.

The law that passed is narrowly written to apply to Schiavo, but the exception it creates is also placed into the public policy arena. To that extent, the Death with Dignity law is now defined by whether an aggrieved family member has access to a legislative presiding officer who is seeking swing votes in an upcoming political primary.

The state is arbitrarily interfering in a private and medical issue. Pure political pandering.

If the state intrudes here, how do they decide when to step in? Political points? Big news story? In favor of their political friends?

If the state can start when it wants, why should it stop?

The Legislature simply waved a magic wand and claimed to grant Gov. Jeb Bush a power that he cannot possess. The governor is not king, you know, no matter how much they want him to be. Both he and the Legislature may exercise only the powers granted to them by the state Constitution.

So the Legislature can no more give the governor the power to issue a made-up "stay" of the judicial branch, as Tuesday's act pretends to do, than give him the power to declare defendants guilty, or order a jury to rule a certain way in a lawsuit, or force appeals courts to rule the way that he wants.

Even as a nuts-and-bolts matter, this act is too sloppy to stand up. It amends no existing statute, invokes no legal power of the governor, nor provides the citizens any relief by appeal. The law will surely be declared unconstitutional in due course.


I'd also add that no matter what the husband's motives are, the woman is already dead. Her heart attack killed most of her brain cells. These dead cells were reabsorbed by her body. Her cerbral cortex is nothing but spinal fluid according to the doctors that have examined her.

When this story broke nationally is when the abortion rights folks came in. There goal in this case to prove that life is precious even when your dead, I guess. Or to establish the "right to life" even for those who are brain dead. Truth is the "right to lifers" are the brain dead ones. Jeb will kiss their collective asses as much and as often as they wish.
