Biden and Feinstein defend USA PATRIOT Act
I know everyone but Russ Feingold (D-WI) were too scared to stand up to this, but it's been a while, and I wish more Democrats were on the right side of this argument.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A61591-2003Oct21.html

"Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.), speaking at the first of several oversight hearings on terrorism legislation, called criticism of the Patriot Act "ill-informed and overblown" and commended prosecutors' work in some terrorism cases.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) mounted a strong defense of the Patriot Act, saying she believes there is "substantial uncertainty and perhaps some ignorance about what this bill actually does do and how it has been employed."

I still think PATRIOT Act sux...

11. Dems who run to the right at the least sigh of trouble share the blame
with Nader, et al, for the rise of the Greens.

As long as the high leadership agrees to play by the GOP's rules, people will continue to be disgusted with the party.

Hell, I 'm just hanging on by my fingernails sometimes.

I keep reminding myself that even here in Bright Red North Dakota one of our Senators stood up to the war resolution, questions the Patriot Act, etc.

2. Republicans have Feinstein running scared
She was in full horror mode for the IWR vote. Fell headlong for that quaint 'weapons of mass destruction' line.

7. Save...
Russ Feingold and a few others of course. he rocks...

There is a difference between the major parties, but it's things like this and the IWR where Nader and folks like that can point out how when it matters to stand up to W, few on the Democratic side do.

I don't think this is true, but it sure helps make his point for him.

8. Fiendstein, again
In July, the House voted to suspend funding for "sneak-and-peek" searches, in which investigators do not immediately notify the subject that a search has been conducted. But Feinstein argued yesterday in favor of the provision, saying it merely codifies, and even narrows, investigative authority already established in drug and organized crime case law.

It seems old Lady Di has issues with people being upset after finding out just how much of their liberties have already been shredded during the war on drugs. Her argument boils down to "what's the big deal? We were already doing these things?" :eyes:

Gratuitous gun-nut comment:
Don't forget, this is the woman who seeks to ban the civilian possession of firearms for any purpose, yet holds her own concealed handgun permit and appears intent on keeping both it and her own gun.

Just in case anyone forgot, Dennis Kucinich is the only Dem candidate who voted against this 1984-like piece of garbage.

Kucinich - NO
Kerry - yes
Gephardt- yes
Edwards - yes
Lieberman - yes
Dean - doesn't have a real job

12. Feinstein - Worst Democrat Ever
She should be recalled, or at least be honest and switch parties.

13. Let's see now. DiFi voted for IWR, voted for the Patriot Act, .......
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 10:52 AM by Flying_Pig
voted to give Bush his $87B for Iraq and the military, and intends to vote for the Syrian sanctions, thereby giving Bush the tools he needs to invade yet another country (Syria), or two. Further, she votes for anything and everything that Israel wants (Israel wanted the IWR, the $87B, and the Syrian sanctions), without exception.

This woman is not a Democrat. She, and a number of other Dems, are giving Bush all he asks for, and are enabling him, and his PNAC neocons, in their quest for world domination, control of world oil resources, and ME subjugation. In doing so, they are also helping Bush's "re-election" efforts.

Why would ANY Democrat do ANYTHING, to help the Bush regime in ANY WAY?? Why do some of them continue to help this regime, day, after day, after day? Why is the Party leadership letting them get away with this? Oh, I forgot, we're talking about people like Daschle and Pelosi, who think it's OK to simply be a "part-time" Democrat.

When I see and hear Dems like Fiendstein, and Biden, and Miller, and Breaux, and on, and on, and then remember how so many of them rolled over and let Bush steal the White House, it recalls feelings I had that the Dems purposely threw the race, and that they exist only as "window dressing" opposition. I know that's not rue, but something really stinks here.

We need to clean house top to bottom in this party (understatement).
