Today's poll news is "College Students Like Bush!" And here I thought...

... that his poll numbers were continuing their downward trend!

One look at a Google News search for "Bush Approval Poll" (http://news.google.com/news?q=Bush+approval+poll&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&edition=us&scoring=d) shows that the big story on the subject the last couple of days is the Harvard University poll showing that Bush does well among college students!

Nearly every news outlet has picked up this "story" in the last day or two, with headlines such as "Bush Does Better With College Students" and "Good and bad news for the president in new poll". Meanwhile, they ignore the latest couple of REAL polls (of the general populace) released in the last day or two that show his apporoval at or below 50% (Pew, Zogby, American Research Group; see http://www.pollkatz.homestead.com/ and http://www.pollingreport.com/BushJob.htm).

Oh, that "liberal" media!

EDIT: Comments on the results of the college poll seem to be what most of you are posting. That is fine, it's not surprising at all to me given that college students on average are more affluent. But the main thing that prompted me to post was the fact that the media are all over this "poll" (which can be viewed as positive for Bush, or at least "good news/bad news"), whereas they are ignoring the low poll numbers in the Zogby and Pew polls released in the last day or two. Any comments on that?

1. Interesting
right as NPR leads the hour with a blurb that new polls indicate trouble for Bus*. Haven't heard of the college poll, but I am certain the rest of the planet won't get much info on the recent decline Bus* has shown in the polls, and certainly nothing like the attention he got last week (was it just last week?) for rising numbers (using 75k+ folks and 30% Dem voting likelys).

2. Big deal
College students also like binge drinking and casual sex.

I never take political advice from anyone who drinks beer with a funnel.

/broad generalization

4. I don't think it's a big deal either. What I DO think is a big deal is...
... the fact that this poll (of college students) is all over the media, whereas the Zogby and Pew polls (of the general populace) is not even on the radar screen.

7. Well...
That's expected behaviour, digging Bush is not.

I am a member of the Century Club, but I never funneled! I think they call it "beer bonging", now. Those crazy kids!

3. Doesn't surprise me...
So many of college students come from the comfortable life style of
the Republicans - parental influence counts and many of the kids in
college do not have to deal with the issues the poor and middle
class do - they live in their comfortable world and everything is just
dandy with them.

6. I think about 1 million kids have dropped out of college or decied not to
attend college in the last three years (I believe the number was 400K for '92).

That's gonna skew these numbers. Who do think is left in college now? Kids of Republicans.

There is a group of loud and proud College Republicans, but they are far outnumbered by Democrats who hate Bush, and even a few CR's I have talked to are not all that crazy about him.
