That is the theme that resonates with me for 2004. I want my candidate to be out front telling it like it is or like it should be. For example:
Push hard for a balanced budget amendment that forces the government to live within its means just like all 50 states are required to do.
Return honesty and accountability to government (no goddamn coverups)
Return honesty and accountability to public corporations. Put the watchdogs back on the job and give them some teeth.
Disband laws that attack our civil liberties (The Patriot Act)
Conduct a full and open investigation into who was behind 9-11 and prosecute them.
Have a genuine plan to restore stability to our economic and monetary system even if it means unwinding tax cuts and eliminating spending on military programs.
Use government stimulus like tax incentives, etc. to fund the development of new industries like alternative fuel sources so we can lessen and then eliminate our dependence on fossil fuel.
Investigate all those who have benefited from The Iraq War without merit (no bidding) and impose excise taxes and penalties on their ill-gotten gains.
Go after The Enrons and Worldcoms for unpaid taxes and for bilking the public. Pursue prosecution of people at the top, including Kenny Boy.
Redirect all taxes, penalties and recoupments along with savings in military and elimination of tax cuts to needed social programs like affordable universal health care for all Americans.
I could go on, but I am sure by now that you get the point. I love this country as do all DU'ers. But I don't love what has become of it. With all my heart that is why I cry out - "I want my country back".
