Jonathan Meier, age 20, departed Portland, Maine, on a coast-to-coast walk to raise awareness for Dennis Kucinich's presidential campaign. He and a group of local supporters headed down Route 1 towards New Hampshire. Volunteers from 24 states have already committed to joining in portions of the walk when it reaches their regions.

At a kickoff event in Portland, Jonathan delivered an eloquent speech. He said, "I walk because people need to know -- people deserve to know that Dennis John Kucinich is running for President in 2004! I am walking to let people know that now is the time for us to act. This is the moment that will change the course of history, because this is the moment that people decided to come together for one grand cause - the cause of global peace."

Dennis Kucinich was in my area tonight - and he gave an electrifying speech. There were about 250 people present. One of the people was one of my Republican state reps. I absolutely love the world as Kucinich sees it can be.

I wanted to weep when he was finished. The world he describes does not exist, and I fear it never will. For an hour I was in a good dream, only to wake up back in Suckworld.

Every voice from the farther left that gets heard pulls the center in that direction. I have been leaning towards Dean but by the time our primary comes here in Illinois I hope Dennis is still in the race. I will vote for him just to let the DNC know he speaks for me more than joe.

...that losing every election outside of Ann Arbor, Berkeley, Eugene and Boston is where the party should be. That's what would happen if the party moved to where Kucinich wants it to be.

Many on this site simply don't understand that moderates and, heaven forbid, conservative Democrats are part of the great coalition we need to secure presidential and statewide victories. Nominate a guy like Kucinich and you can forget about much of the Dem vote near the center.

I heard my great uncle (a loyal FDR Democrat, but fairly conservative by Dem standards) say something recently that really struck me. He said, I don't care who the Dems nominate, I'll vote for him. Except that Kucinich fellow. He's right out of the nuthouse.

You know, my dad calls himself a McGovern Republican....not out of any real affection for the GOP, but because he says he will never vote for a party that nominated George McGovern. How many Kucinich Republicans are we going to create if we nominate Mr. Mind-Control-Weapons-in-Space, Pass-Me-the-Vegan-Hamburger, Let's-Drop-Flowers-on-the-Terrorists-Instead-of-Bombs?

Why is Kucinich in the nut house? Because he actually knows the friggin issues and isn't just a big cliche' machine? Because he is the ONLY ONLY ONLY candidate that can TRULY be trusted to not sell out our nation to corporate whores?

Because he actually will fight for those without power and that without voice?

Ya know...It was people LIKE -JUST LIKE-EXACTLY LIKE...Dennis Kucinich that made this Party the greatest party in America. PEOPLE LIKE Kucinich who fought the corporate monopolies in the 1800s, who fought for safe working conditions, who pulled kids out of sweatshops, who demanded safe products, who fought for freedom for blacks, suffrage for women, against pollution and the raped environment, who fought for working people WHO BUSTED Their ass 75 hours a week only to not be able to feed their kids...

They-LIKE Dennis K-FOUGHT for these things BEFORE BEFORE BEFORE it was the "politically expedient" thing to do.

The further away from Kucnich we go, the closer to Bush we get, the closer to exploitation, hate, greed, justification of evil, death, war, violence.

What has "going moderate" gotten us? Well, its successfully gotten us a rabid right wing revolution. It has created apathy and despair in Democrats, it has ALLOWED over 100 million voters from NEVER VOTING, because they don't see any damned difference in the two parties.

They are accustomed to the fact that their shallow miserable life is dictated by placid, shallow pop culture and corporate oligarchs-who have been running this world for 20 years now.

And what the f*** does Dennis' vegan lifestyle have to do with anything?

Maybe Dennis Kucinich isnt' the perfect guy and yes...I agree we need our moderates in the party to add to dialog and to give us that certain perspective, but I'll be damned if we need to turn our back on providing health care for everyone, bringing HUMANITY to the human race, raining peace on the world and not bombs, fighting against the exploitative powers who run our world and our lives...

Kucinich is only a mystery to those who don't understand him or are not aware of the many things he speaks to. Just like the moderates ignored trust busting, suffrage, workers rights, eradication of slave labor, corporate accountability, and more rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for the common man in this country, at some point they will come around again, but in the meantime it is Kucinich who has to take up this fight...and in time he will be vindicated.

I know campaigns are nothing but a popularity contest with no candidate saying anything other than tired useless cliches. It's all about how much pizzaz one has. Not any true convictions, real ideas, vision or a scope on what ails this world.

Kucinich won't win the nomination. This much I am convinced of, but if people think we need to relegate he and his ilk to some dark corner of the Democratic Party then lets wave up the white flag now...Lets tell Rush, Bush, Savage, Hannity, The Aryan Nations, militias, KKK and fascist that this "your nation" now...do with it as you please....

and then we can tell our kids, old people, the environment, workers, future generations, world allies that the Democratic Party is dead and buried, we are only a freak show in this big Republican run circus.

Wonder why we have Bush as a President? Because enough people in New Hampshire went Green.

Screw the Florida bs for a minute. That only disuades us from realizing what went wrong in 2000. It was NOT the moderates who we needed to get the election in 2000...It was the progressives. We either reign them back in, or keep on the ugly path toward the right which will invariably lead to ruin....for not only the Party but this nation.

Not signed up yet. I thought I could perhaps join in Kansas City and make it to Lawrence. I am a little concerned about being 50 with bad rheumatoid arthritis and walking 35 miles more than I am used to in Kansas in January BUT I think I may just give it a go. Why not? I have to go back to the site and check it out in case I freeze up at some point. Suddenly the thought of this is far more exciting than worrisome. What a great deal this is.
