Poll question: Tinfoil Hat Poll: Secret Chemical Behavior Modification
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 08:52 PM by nu_duer
Maybe this should be in the lounge, but I'm not so sure.

Is it possible the American people, or vast portions of us, being exposed to chemicals designed to make us behave a certain way? Through our water, in our air, in grocery stores and banks, in our food, etc? In flu vaccines. Is it possible?

I say it could be, if we have a drug that can induce honesty, then why not one that can make one complacent? I know for a fact complacency-inducing drugs exist - ; - ) - so this is at least plausable. Any doubt Cheneyco. would refrain from using such a "tool"?

So, the poll question: Is It Possible that We the People are being chemically manipulated by the government?

Feel free to state why you believe or susupect what you believe or suspect.

(edited because parts of the poll didn't post the first time)

4. No, I haven't, but I quit drinking tap water a few years ago
Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 08:51 PM by nu_duer
Now, I am fully aware that "they" could be laughing their a** of at those like me who drink only bottled water, but I quit drinking tap water after I held a glass up to the streaming sunlight and saw a sea of small particles of some kind swirling around in the water so thick that the sunlight was diffused. I refuse to drink it.

2. The drug is TV.
Turn the goddamn thing OFF!

They don't need chemicals. TV makes one complacent (well, except when a DUer watches * "speak").

3. Well, something made me
tell my boss I'd be happy to volunteer for a strategic planning meeting AFTER being out of town all day at a series of other boring droning long winded dull mind numbing meetings today.

Either that or I'm a total sucker. And I'd rather believe in a chemical conspiracy.

10. Look at the proliferation of school children with some label
of some kind, ADD, AHDD, Aspergers etc. all on drugs, mandated by the way by laws lobbied for by the Pharms. Next consider the number of adults taking what's called (by the insensitive) "crazy lady pills" and how easy it is to get them prescribed by your HMO pill pusher. Now ask the question again.

This was in response to the post WildClarySage but somehow ended up under your response. Sorry, my bad.

7. Possibly
There'd have to be some convincing argument, for me anyway. As far as bush, I've heard and seen all I need to hear and see from this sad sataining blotch on history.

I would believe that a ressurected Nazi party that had lain in wait has now finally siezed all power of the richest, most powerful nation in mankind's history, if someone could make a semi-convincing case for it.

8. Can't be done - doses
required are way too big, dilution in a city water supply would be enormous. That's why bioterrorists doing things like LSD in your local reservoir haven't really happened.

11. TV and a lousy Educational System
Is all the influence you need.

Remember that "the American People" are thinking adults who are responsible for their actions or inactions. You don't have to drug most people to be simply apathetic or misinformed.

And unless the majority of republicans are drinking and eating from a seperate troth, any chemical brain damage caused by the environment is across the board. In other words, we could all be getting stupid or crazy and not even know the differnce!

:silly:

12. you cannot make people behave in
predictable ways and still be fully functional... It just doesn't work... Say, if you find a way to reduce their attention span by using certain neurotransmitters or neurotoxins, then you also make them unable to perform well in their jobs... This assuming that there is a way to deliver the stuff in the right quantities etc...

Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 09:23 PM by nu_duer
Funny how government and jobs are linked.

Maybe being "productive" doesn't mean what you think it means. Maybe not, but is it possible?

Maybe we have drugs that perform outside the boundries you are familiar with.

Its certainly possible.

But those are valid obstacles. I think the problem with some "tinfoilhatters" is that we/they fail to differentiate possiblilty from certainty.

14. Hmmm...
I think I would have heard about it... At least rumors in the hallways, colleagues, etc... The state of the field regarding drugs that have specific behavioral effects is much more primitive than they'd like you to believe (if your main info. channel on this issue is the NYT or worse, well, I can tell you they don't know what they are talking about when they write about this stuff). -C

Edited on Wed Oct-22-03 09:35 PM by nu_duer
What do you think this is, other than a rumour in a hallway?

Anyway, (I can't believe I got this far wihtout saying "perhaps"), perhaps it exists perhaps it doesn't. The US government HAS USED CHEMICALS on unsuspecting populations of Americans before. Perhaps they think bigger than we do.

but it indicates ,to me at least, that a significant number of DUers who responded to this poll agreed with the possiblity and likelyhood that such an effort by the bush regime could possibly be underway.

18. We're Chemically Manipulated By Corporations
Who to a large extent influence our government.

McDonald's chemical patties are basically garbage...

The huge amount of poor quality food that has been treated with chemicals probably has an adverse effect on the U.S. population's intelligence and behavior.

a Poll on brain implants... I heard somebody at Starbucks saying the government had implanted a chip in his brain to spy on him... :) Not that different than this theory of drugs with specific behavioral effects (i.e., vote republican) this poll talks about... No offense... There is no evidence... -C

26. TV, fast food, and antidepressants

are the 3 biggest mood controllers in the USA.

Read Peter Breggin's work on the nasty history of antidepressants:

37. No, I take antidepressants
And I get a bit peeved when it is suggested that I am being suckered into an oppressive corporate plot numb me into submission by taking antidepressants. I tried living by a variation on that theory for a couple of years and it wasn't pretty.

My previous post consisted of me banging my fists on the keyboard because I am sick and tired of seeing "antidepressants" lumped in the same category as fast food. I do think they are probably overprescribed, and my personal experience with them was mixed, although ultimately positive when combined with therapy.

I realize my experience is not universal but I felt the need to vent.

35. Oh my god (dies laughing, then cries)
I never realized that the majority of DU believes in just about every conspiracy theory known to mankind.

Poll: Did aliens land at Roswell?

Survey says, 75% of DUers say "hell yeah!"

Poll: were the moon landings faked?

Survey says, 64% of DUers say "damn straight!"

It kind of makes it hard to take anyone seriously when there's a discussion on anything else, with slightly more... relevance.
