How can any progressive not freepin' despise Mahathir?
God I hate Malaysia's bastard of a President: He's puritanical, he runs a political system that treats ethnic minorities as second class citizens, and he blames all the problems in the Islamic world.

Look at this moranic bastard:

"The Europeans are determined to impose a global culture that includes the practice of free sex, especially sodomy. Marriage between male and male, female and female are officially recognised by them. They no longer regard incest as sin."

He "blames" Jews for having "invented socialism, communism, human rights, and democracy so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong, so that they can enjoy equal rights with others."

Where the Hell does he get off saying this crap? Where the Hell does he get off with his Nazi-like views of Malays as the superiour race to Chinese and Hindistanis. UGHH!

Hey man! Satan called: He wants his best Hitler clone back!

But first, how about spending your last 20 or so years polluting this Earth by filling for Limpdick!

(And then you wonder why warmongering bastards like Ariel Sharon are so successful in Israel. The true square of evil: Chicoms, Republicans, Islamists, and Judeoextremists.)

A few years back, Paul Shanklin (hate his views but find the man hillarious) made a spoof ridiculing Carville and Begala entitled "Dueling Bozos," in which these great men were mocked to tune of "Dueling Banjos."

Maybe I can make a one in flash featuring Mahathir squaring off against Repuke leaers or (perhaps even better) against Ariel Sharon.

4. But this man is especially disgusting...
He has the nerve to market himself as a moderate and as some sort of progressive visionary. I have a feeling he and Fred Phelps will spend eternity engaging in mutual sodomy. ;)

17. He is a demogogue, but he is democratically elected unlike our leader
and his views on things are only honest renditions of what most Bush supporters believe. His term of office is over in a month.

5. What I found most disturbing about the Mahathir speech
was his attempt to whip up the terrorists by first belittling them for using rocks, and then challenging them to obtain missiles, bombs, rockets, and other weapons to use against Israel and her allies.

This was a speech to the Muhammadean world, not just a sermon to a small group in a mosque, like General Boykin's words to a church congregation that was secretly taped by a Linda Tripp wannabe.

10. Seems only fair
his attempt to whip up the terrorists by first belittling them for using rocks, and then challenging them to obtain missiles, bombs, rockets, and other weapons

Seems only fair. No one has a monopoly on effective weapons and everyone has a right to defend themselves against attack.

Your slight of hand in equating all Muslim states with terrorists has been noted.

? or are you just talking out your rear? He obviously blurs jews and israelis, but then Israelis do that too. He never called for terrorism in the speech and specifically said muslims should be moving away from it.

8. There's always one !
I personally don't get the excitement about this speech. Mahathir is trying to find some game plan that will help his side (over 1 billion people) successfully resist the most powerful military juggernaut (or so we're told) in history. In case you haven't noticed, Malaysia isn't invading Israel, or Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Syria, or Iran, or anyone else. They're at peace with their neighbors, so far as I know.

Perhaps you think Muslims should just roll over and play dead while the civilized countries steal their resources and seed their soil with depleted uranium. Is this progressive ? Not in my mind.

As to blaming Jews for inventing human rights and democracy - well gee - that doesn't sound so bad to me. And using their brains to overcome much larger groups in opposition - does he say this is a bad thing ?

Maybe the man is not sufficiently "sensitive" to what Jews feel after years of persecution by Europeans, but that really isn't his job.

And blaming Mahathir for Sharon's success ? You can't be serious !

13. I think something was lost in the translation
His entire thrust was that Jews have done far better than Muslims, I don't think his comments abouts democracy and human rights were meant as anything but examples of a successul policy vs. a failed Muslim policy of nihilistic violence.

14. Like Mugabe, Mahatir is......
....the first 'elected' leader of a former colony. Most of their attitudes were formed by life under the colonial power (UK).......and many of their methods of rule reflect those of their predecessors.

I wouldn't be too exercised about him.....the APEC forum was one of his last official duties before his retirement.

Shares most of his views with Robertson and Falwell. I don't know any progressives who admire him. Why do we have more of an obligation to dislike foriegn fundies than our own?

19. He did not use the word "blame".
You said:

He "blames" Jews for having "invented socialism, communism, human rights, and democracy so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong, so that they can enjoy equal rights with others."

He did not "blame" the Jews; what he said was that the Jews (read:Israel) got to where they were by "thinking" (his word), citing that they "invented socialism, communism, human rights, and democracy" (I don't know how he arrived at this conclusion) "so that persecuting them would appear to be wrong," (which I agree with) "so that they can enjoy equal rights with others." (which I agree with).

He also said, to paraphrase, that Muslims have gotten nowhere with violence and encouraged them to think instead of resorting to terrorism.
