Five protesters were arrested in violent clashes with police as thousands descended on the nation's capital to demonstrate against US President George W Bush.

A mass police presence and unprecedented security was in place, but protesters breached plastic webbed fencing outside the US embassy before being pushed back.

Two police officers sustained minor injuries when protesters hurled star pickets which had been part of the crowd barriers, police said.

A protester collided with an Australian Protective Service bicycle in chaotic scenes as he ran towards the heavily guarded embassy.

The officer fell from the bike and tackled the protester.

The officer later received medical treatment for an injured knee but police said the protester was not injured
But police maintained the security of Mr Bush's visit had not been breached and denied protesters' claims some officers used excessive force.

7. LOL...I guess Australia doesn't have...
"Free Speech Zones".

Here, in the 'bastion of Freedeom', we are kept away from the fool if we want to raise a stink. Who would have thought that anyone would have more Freedom than the US?

I want our country back, and a restoration of the Freedoms we hold so dear!
