Would any of these senators ever switch parties?

1. Olympia Snowe of Maine.
2. Susan Collins of Maine.
3. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.
4. Lincoln Chafee of Rhode Island.
5. John McCain of Arizona.

1. Specter -- no way

He's a dino, which with the repugs is a good thing, but he wouldn't switch. I would guess that if anything Chaffee would follow Jeffords and become an independent. But not a dem.

for his Senate seat. But from what I gather, he's not exactly a Bush Republican. Why do you think Snowe might one day defect?

from what I've heard and if he hasn't done it by now, I don't know that he will. But the NE Republicans do seem to be more moderate than their breathern.

Sounds like a Dem locked up in a Repub's body. But the party controls them pretty well. Just look at the way they vote. No individualism allowed here. They have to vote with the party.

He may not always see eye-to-eye with them, but he's got seniority now... committee chairmanships... Switching parties would be bad for him, and ultimately, bad for us.

none would go dem but may do a Jim Jeffords.I remember Chafee being threatened live on air on CSPAN one morning after Jeffords jumped ship-he was warned and you could see him sweating-they threatened his children too as I recall-they are scary sonsofbitches.Paul Wellstones'ghost will attest to it

He's challenged Shrub a lot recently, though I doubt he'd ever become a democrat. He's become one of the "least-hated" to me.

Specter, Chafee, and McCain may all follow the Jeffords mold and go independent...but never all the way to our side, IMHO.
But if that happened, expect good ol' Zell to finally show his true colors and bolt the Party to the other side.
He has practically broken his neck to follow the Repukes in everything since he got sent up to the Senate.
He's a Democrat in name only. He carries the label. A real wolf in sheep's clothing.
